Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Would you assign this book to your teen? Why or why not. I have not read it yet myself

I'd say no, or at least a parent ought to preread.... I considered assigning it to my oldest in his senior year and then dropped the idea.   In one way it would have been a great thing to consolidate a Catholic world view.    It is a very relevant book from that point of view.   But there's some fairly open s*xual content; it isn't done for thrills but it might be difficult reading for a teen if that was his first exposure to that kind of content.

I'm going to vote Yes.
It is a book that shows up on college lists frequently. I'd take the chance to read it from a Catholic point of view emphasizing that heavily. Then in college when other points of view are brought out in discussions hopefully the student would remember and even bring the Catholic aspects to the discussion table himself.

Ooohh. I am not sure. I bet Trip will have it assigned in his junior or senior year. I read it in 11th grade, and loved most of it, but skipped the se*ual parts as they just did not appeal to me. I wanted to get on with the story!

I liked it way better than 1984 .

I read it in high school and liked it - seemed like a science fiction (and I generally don't like science fiction) that was coming true in real life with the eugenics, etc. But I reread it as an adult and saw a lot that I had missed - that I didn't like. I basically decided against having my dd read it. I would definitely recommend the parent reading it first - there is plenty in it that might not be appropriate.
