Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am looking for all and any ideas for materials for modern history (world history- we are Canadian so we would want something that was American History heavy!).

This is for very mathy/sciency dd who is a senior this year (and would rather skip history all together )

Please!!!

You might look at the book lists for Simply Charlotte Mason's modern history program....

Thanks- I am going to take a look at both of them. The sticker sometimes is that being Canadian we definitely want some American history in our Modern History but not one that is primarily American focused.

Phillip Campbell who teaches history classes for Homeschool Connections is a great teacher. My daughter loves his classes. All the Homeschool Connections classes from the past are accessible with their monthly access fee ($30). He does have a Modern American History class which I know is not what you are looking for as a Canadian, but some of the sessions might be what you are looking for, where they focus on more world affairs. He also has a "World History: 12 Inventions That Revolutionized the World" - the inventions of the last couple hundred years obviously would cover modern history. I know neither exactly meet your request but I mention it because he is that good and I think makes history enjoyable to someone who might not be inclined to enjoy it. Going the $30 monthly access route, you can take have access to it all since it is pre-recorded and skip around as desired. It would be a good supplement to other materials you might use.

I looked at the suggestions, and they look great. I am, however, still trying to find a 20th Century 'spine' to sort of glue all the lit. we are reading together.

Also, does anyone have resources they love for WW1 and WWII??

Thanks!

A History of the Twentieth Century by Martin Gilbert.

We have this book, but haven't read it so I can't give you any hints or pointers on areas you might want to steer clear...or areas of mis-representation. I've only skimmed the book, but in my first skim I thought it was well done and offered a pretty good fly-over of the 20th century. It seemed pretty balanced. It's a fit for a mature high schooler.

We have so many WWI/II resources I wouldn't know where to start. I'll ask for a list of the top three and get back to you!

Thanks to both of you!

I need to find that 'concise' edition of the Gilbert book.   We have the decidedly NOT concise edition here and it is in a couple gigantic volumes!
