Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used MUS for Algebra I or higher?

I'm wondering if anyone has used the Pre-Cal in particular and then done well with the SAT and/or got into college level math? I see MUS even has Calculus!

Currently we have been using A Beka, which although thorough and in some ways tough, but understandable and doable, ds who was enjoying the math, is feeling drained by the length of the lessons and amount of homework...it is a lot I agree actually. Now his enjoyment is waning and I'd hate for him to stop enjoying it!

Kacky, we have not, but I know two local families that have and both seem to have done or are doing very well with it. We begin with Math U See and the switch to Teaching Textbooks. I don't know why, but knowing how well these two families have done does make me wonder if we should be doing the same....staying with one math program throughout. I can ask them for their thoughts if no one else replies.

My daughter and son both use Math-U-See. My daughter is a senior and just finishing up PreCalc. She got a 550 on the math section on the SAT. She has never been a big math person. One thing she says is that she did not learn about functions until PreCalc. Since she didn't do any studying for the SAT she never learned how to do these and skipped over all of these types of problems on the test. Functions aren't difficult, she just hadn't been taught them and didn't study them on her own during SAT prep.

Another help might the MUS-user's yahoo group.

Hope that helps!
