Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have heard many mixed messages about VanLoon for his book Story of Mankind. I am trying to put together a Fine Arts for HS and someone mentioned his name again for the book "The Art" by VanLoon.

Can anyone comment on his book or give other good books to use. I already am planing on using Sister Wendy Becket.

To give a thorough overview of Western art, artists, periods, and influences in high school, I like The History of Art for Young People. A very well organized and illustrated overview.

I personally like van Loon's books and find his writings refreshing, even though I don't agree with everything.

The above book is good, but quite dry. Young People's Story of Art would be another possibilty. The Annotated Mona Lisa would also be one.
