Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'll be sending my oldest off to college in August and I'm getting a little nervous about packing all he will need. Does anyone have, or know of a list of items college students should take with them? I know all colleges, and kids, are different, but I'm looking for something general, just to get me started.

I found this liston-line. It's fairly comprehensive and maybe be more than he will actually need. (Something tells me he won't need a curling iron, hair straightener, snow shovel, or birth control. )

My college used to have a bulletin board and waste basket standard in every room, and they used to give a large desk calendar at the start of every semester.

When I was going away I tried to pack as little as possible because I was scared there wouldn't be enough room for everything. Then at the end of the first week I went to a big box store to fill in the gaps of what I still needed and what I had space for. Of course, if he doesn't have access to transportation off campus that could be an issue.

Thanks Barb! That list is very helpful. My son (and the rest of the team) will have to be at school 3 weeks before the rest of the students because of football. After that, they have to move to a different dorm for the rest of the year. We'll be going to help him make that move, so after 3 weeks he should have an idea of what he's missing ... I hope.

Look at the target and walmart websites. They have a good list. I must say - the list above is too much. Keep it simple and whats needed. I might add - You say he is on a sports team - pack some type of air freshener. my ds was wondering how to keep his laundry from smelling in between washings (he is not on a team but exercises). I told him to get "citrus magic" - a solid air freshener! We were way less stressed about what to pack this second year of college then last year. I think him being a boy helps - I feel less stressed about him taking a bus to walmart to get stuff he needs then I would a girl! Also - really there isn't much room in the average dorm room so don't over do!
