Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are planning a visit to Benedictine college where my ds hopes to check out the chemistry dept. My dh and I think he should have a list of questions to ask when he visits various colleges to help him make a decision. My ds did not get his chemistry brain from me, I'm clueless about the subject!    I'm really no help to him at all in coming up with this list of questions. So, asking my trusty friends here at 4Real ... what do you think are some good questions to ask a Chemistry Dept. Chair about their program?

Some general questions:
Where did the most recent graduating class go and do?
What are the research opportunities?
Does the department help prep students for MCAT or other test your son must take to get to the next level?
What percentage of freshmen entering the Chem program graduate?
What resources does the college have to help a student who may be struggling with a particular class?
Is there club or activities that center around studying Chem?

Are there scholarships associated with studying Chem that I should be aware of? If so what are they?

I hope to do.......What are some of the things I should consider in planning my studies? Internships?

I find......very interesting. I wonder are there opportunities to pursue my interest.

The top two questions show a bit more then the general questions.

Do most graduate in four years?

Hope this helps a bit. It is the was the most exciting time for me as a parent. I find this period of life so filled with possibility! They get to learn, do, try, and experience so many new things. My dd is a sophmore at AVE studying Biology.

I am not a science person per se. I don't know if he should ask this, but *I* would be curious to know if they had an open lab available for personal research. In my own fields it seemed that I would have an idea at random times of the day and a need to pursue it. Does that translate to chemistry?

Internships are really important these days. I would definitely ask about them!
