Somewhere, some time ago, I saw a list of colleges that were considered faithful to the Catholic Church. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

If you scroll down you will see their list of faithful colleges/universities. Ave Maria University is a very faithful one! My brother is attending Ave Maria and he is very happy with the school. He attends mass everyday, special prayer services and pretty much whatever they have available. His major used to be Theology and Philosophy. I believe his focus is now on Philosophy and Economics.
I have heard of the other ones, but I don't know anything about them. I hope this helps answer your question. There are some other sites too, but from what I have read, the Newman Society already researched them according to different criteria including cost, academics, most faithful, institutional aid and some others. There was an issue of Faith and Family that had info about Catholic Colleges if I remember correctly????

I've been experiencing University of Dallas up close and personal this weekend as we drop off my oldest daughter. Thumbs up all the way.
I'd say that the Newman Guide is probably the best comprehensive review of Catholic colleges. My husband teaches at Belmont Abbey, for example, and I think their assessment of that college, which is fighting its way back from a period of serious decline, is very fair and evenhanded. What's good is really good: a serious Catholic kid will find a supportive community, and the faculty hired in the last five years or so (like my husband) are faithful Catholics, excellent scholars, and enthusiastic mentors to their students. On the other hand, there are still some professors and some departments which are not totally clued in to the idea of *Catholic* scholarly excellence, and like pretty much any college anywhere, there are party kids as well as Latin Mass kids. But it's coming along, and apparently the new freshman class is really terrific. (and if anyone wants to come visit, you can stay with *me*!)
All the colleges my daughter applied to were Newman Guide Colleges -- it was very, very helpful to have the guidance which a directory provides. And they were all markedly different from one another, despite their inclusion and positive reviews. (and now my next kid wants to go to West Point . . . a totally different take on things . . . ).

Thanks Ladies. I'll check out the link to the Newman Guide. That is what I was looking for.
My ds is strong in his faith but he's looking for a college with a strong Chemistry program AND a football team! That really limits our choices!
I went to Fransiscan too Mimi! Graduated in 86. Yes, I'm that old!

My dh is walking around Catholic today. He's in DC and had some time to kill.
I think one of the things I noticed in looking at the Newman Guide was that science majors seemed to be underrepresented. My 9th grader wants to be an archaeologist and that also seems to be a difficult occupational choice when it comes to the schools in the Newman Guide, although I think University of Dallas and Catholic both have classics programs that do some archaeological work (and also have a decent array of science and engineering programs)... Many of my kids (including my 7th grade dd) are science oriented, though, so I'm hoping that more Catholic colleges make the Newman Guide in the next 3-5 years!!

Also just want to mention that some public universities today are blessed with incredible Newman Centers--adoration, solid priests, also turning out vocations. Depending on your major and/or budget that may be a directions some may choose to go. I am not sure where a good guide is on the internet but both University of IL in Champaign and University of WI are two that come to mind.

Angela, my daughter's roommate at UD wants to be an archaeologist, though (or maybe "so") she's hoping to major in art history as an undergraduate.
Belmont Abbey actually has fairly strong science programs, and the medical-school acceptance rate for Abbey grads is very high. No engineering, but good science overall. That often kind of gets lost in the liberal-arts PR.
Benedictine, which we also looked at and liked very much, has engineering.
