Yes, it's summer - my time to plan and pre-read. Dd (grade 9 in the fall) will be studying ancient history. I am looking for reading suggestions - I have plenty from ancient Greece and Rome, but would love to hear your suggestions from other ancient civilizations, both fiction and nonfiction. All suggestions welcome!

Nancy
Our Ancient Mesopotamia/Israel reads were;
Hittite Warrior- Joanne Williamson
God King: A Story in the Days of King Hezekiah- Joanne Williamson
Victory on the Walls: A Story of Nehemiah- Frieda Clark Hyman
Tirzah- Lucille Travis
Adara- Beatrice Gormley
Ancient Egypt
Golden Goblet- Eloise Jarvis McGraw
Shadow Hawk- Andre Norton
Mara, Daughter of the Nile- Eloise Jarvis McGraw
The Cat of Bubastes - GA Henty
Pharoah- Jackie French
Non-fiction
Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt - Elizabeth PayneRiddle of the Rosetta Stone - James Giblin
Pyramid - David Macaulay
The Great Pyramid - Elizabeth Mann Probably more for primary aged children but still interesting for olders.
Thinking some more, which other ancient civilizations are you doing?

Erin, we're doing Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and, hopefully, Africa (Kush, Nok, Nubia), China and India (study emphasis depends on how much reading material we can find).

You could look at the Connecting to History booklists. Here is grade 7-9 and here is grade 10-12.

I've looked at them (and purchased some of the books we didn't already own) - but we want to do non-Western history, too, and that's where I need more help.
