Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello everyone~
I hope this is ok to post here- -I wasn't sure where to put it. First though, I want to wish everyone a very blessed Lent!

I am wondering what age you all think is appropriate to show "The Passion" movie to your teen? My ds is 14 ( a new 14) and can be sensitive. However, I don't mind saying that in many ways-this movie would benefit him LOTS. I just know it's very hard to watch, although necessary. What do you think?   Has your teen watched this movie? Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks!

My currently 13 year old begged to watch it last Lent. We ran out of time

I promised this year we would. And I watched it a week or two ago alone and....I'm not sure what to do.   I think it might be too much but am thinking it would be good. My ds is pretty sensitive, too.
I am thinking of one of us (dh or I) watching WITH him and leaving it that we can turn it off at anytime--he doesn't HAVE to watch it.
Looking forward to other ideas and thoughts with you!

Anne-
I totally agree-I would certainly watch it with him. I like the idea of giving the option to turn it off at any time...

I would definitely watch it with him...we watched it with our 12 yr old, and it was pretty emotional.

We've only had our 17-year-old watch it so far (she's now almost 20). I might hold out 'til 14-yo is 15 before I let him. I watched it the one time and can't do it again.

Our imaginations tend to protect us and we often won't picture things as intensely or vividly as it's portrayed in film.

Perhaps finding the written description of what each thing that Christ had to go through and going over that first would give a better understanding without the vivid picture and help the younger teens choose to wait or feel like they can handle it.

Here if there's a movie that might be questionable for one of the kids but not others, we make sure that the one child (well all of them) knows that it's ok to close their eyes or leave the room at need. (it's usually not age that determines this, or we'd just not have the younger ones watching at all)

Another option is to use the remote. Then you could skip some of the scenes that are too much for your child.
