My dd(16) is reading her way through the bible. We have done the T3 timeline and some of the other Ascension Press DVD recommendations. We also have the Didache Scripture book.
but! she would like more of a breakdown on each book and extra commentary and background information about the time period, maps, etc...
Can you recommend anything??
TIA!

As far as an in depth commentary on scripture, I recommend the Navarre bible...I had my teen dd read the volume on the Gospel of John and she loved it.

I was coming here to suggest the Navarre, too. I got it for Christmas for myself and love it. It is expensive but everyone will end up using it at some time. And I just got the gospel readings to start. I am hoping to introduce ds, who is 12, to it soon(as I get finished learning some things )

I have the Navarre commentaries and like them. I prefer the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible Commentaries. There are maps, context explanations, topical essays, word studies, charts. There's also a chapter by chapter set of study questions in the back so that it could be used with a study group, but I always thought they'd be good to prompt some discussion for a high school student. They're based on the RSV. Unfortunately, there aren't study guides for every book in the Bible.

No. And, that's a bummer because we would love those too! I'm watching this thread like you for suggestions with Old Testament commentaries for high school age folks.

I know this is johnny-come-lately, but I was considering using Peter Kreeft's You Can Understand The Bible or Mark Schea's Making Senses out of Scripture. Each takes the bible book by book to explain the larger themes, connections and historical context of each book of the bible.

I know you did the T3 timeline, which is an abbreviated version of the Jeff Cavin's Bible Timeline course.
I completed the Cavin's course several years ago and my ds14 did the T3 version this year.
The Bible Timeline course has more scripture reading involved but in my opinion would be fine for a teen. I believe we did the course over 24 weeks.
