Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

...in your high school? Do you use them as a supplement? Do you take credits for them?

Thanks.

I'm looking at them. And for credit.

I was thinking about getting my ds the Joy of Science or War and World History (if it goes on sale again). Listening to these would be credit, even if they were a supplement. For work he's doing right now which I consider high school level, I am counting everything that relates: activities, books and magazine articles read, documentaries and films watched, audio listened to, field trips, etc. As it long as I think it's worthy of being called "high school", I write it down and try to keep track of time spent.

Of course we're fairly relaxed in some ways and much of the work I'm counting now is going to accrue over a few years. But if I start keeping track of it now, I'll know when he his that magical "120 hours"... or "150 hours"... or whatever number I end up deciding to use. The dates on his transcript might not be very neat, but I imagine I'll figure out what to do with that when the time comes.

We use them as they would be used in college, that is with a related textbook or primary source material. I coordinate the reading material (Catholic whenever possible) with the lectures and have them read before the lecture. I give short answer, fill in the blank and multiple choice tests on the book or documents and the discussion questions from the TC outline booklet for essay questions or just for discussions. We use a few different Ancient Greece and Rome TC courses along with an oop Catholic book in 9th and "The History of the United States" 2nd edition along with "Christ and the Americas" in 11th. History of the US is my older kids favorite so far and while I originally found CATA to whitewash too much, it works as a very good counterbalance for the TC lectures and a springboard for many interesting conversations. They also really enjoy "How to Listen to and Understand Great Music" which they do along with some outside reading a a theory class for .5 elective credit in 11th grade. "A History of European Art" with research assignments is also .5 credit in either 10th linked with church history or 12th grade. These courses are outstanding and have inspired our older children and prepared them well for college level lectures. Check your public library as ours now has almost a dozen available to borrow.

We have about 200 of them in our library! I love the music one. Now to think about how to get them as part of our curriculum.

If you are looking for a cheaper option; they are having sales at the moment, but also many of the courses are available in audio format which is a cheaper option.

Ok, trying to stuff my eyeballs back in my head... wondering which of my children I'd have to sell to get such a wonderful library... sigh...

Definitely a great bonus for us. Funny story - about 4 years ago we were looking at possibly moving - we visited a little town which was then very rural and almost in the mountains - and looked at the land and planned development. My children wanted to look at the town library - took one look at the one room library and declared that they did not want to move....
