Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a crazy question...seems like I should know this but I don't!

I have told my dd, 9th grade, that we need to make a book list of the books she reads during her high school years for transcript purposes.

Does this include every book she reads (I assume we don't need to include the Hardy Boys she picks up for a quick afternoon read from her brother )?

Basically what I am asking is does it include the twaddle-free enjoyment books she reads that are NOT assigned to her, besides the assigned readings? Did that make sense?

For the official transcript? We haven't been, although if she happened upon something really good that tied in well with what she was studying, I would make an exception. It may just be my less-is-more tendencies, but I would hate to be the admissions officer slogging my way through page after page after page of booklists...

I do think keeping an informal booklist of everything read is a nice idea, though.

Did that help?

I think it's fine to include leisure reading on a book list (we do), although I'd leave off "fun" reads - series, comic books, stuff like that. If she picks up something like a Jane Austen novel to read for fun, I'd definitely put that on the list.

If it's generally considered high school or college reading material, we include it, even if it was "read for fun", like the Jane Austen stuff.

Thinking back to when I was a teen, I'd be careful not to put too much emphasis on keeping track of her leisure reading.

There can be problems if considering a book's listworthyness becomes part of the selection process for leisure reading material.

When I was around that age I would quite deliberately 'lose track' of what I was reading or simply decide that certain books or time periods didn't count whenever I was asked to keep track of my reading. Anything to keep from having to remember and write out a long list of books as I found it spoiled the leisure aspect of leisure reading.
