I was just wondering if anyone else is planing 10th grade this year. I have so many thoughts in my brain but don't know where to start! I was wondering if anyone would like to share their plans so maybe I can get some ideas.  I know for sure that we will be using Christ the King Lord of History and repeating TT Algebra I since my son has to bombed it.  Anyway, I thought I would ask here to see what some of you ladies have planned! By the way, have any of you ever used Ray's Arithmetic before? Anyone use it in the higher grades, like for Algebra?

I am planning 10th, but I really don't have my ducks all in a row yet...
we are "behind" in math because of a processing issue, so I can't help you there...
I am still gesticulating...

My husband and I (and all the kids) just got back from a long road trip, where dh said those magical words "Tell me about what your plans are for homeschooling this coming year."
SO... for my 2nd go around at 10th grade, I am not changing too much from the first time:
Pavel-
(2.5 credits) Regina Coeli Humanities II (History, Literature. Composition)
( .5 credits) Vocabulary From Classical Roots C
( 1 credit ) Teaching Textbooks Geometry (Math)
( .5 credits) Art at the local high school
( 1 credit) Religion: Mass and the Sacraments using MODG syllabus
( 1 credit) Logic through Regina Coeli
( 1 credit ) Natural History (science) using MODG syllabus
Thats a total of 7.5 credits. He only took 5 credits last year as a freshman, because I wanted him to start out slow and focus on high school level work, so I told him his sophomore year would be more challenging. I plan on doing the standard 6 credits a year for the rest of high school.

Well, I think I have finally decided on my son's 10th grade year! I think these high school years are going to fry my little brain!!! I have poured over tons of catalogs, posts on here,HSOYD, and of course random ideas that just pop in my head! My sweet son will have to repeat Algebra next year. He has a tutor this summer, but I think it would be best for him to repeat it. Not to mention that he needs the credit! Here are my plans:
IEW for writing (he struggles with this as well)
Repeating TT Algebra I ( I might supplement with Ray' Algebra, still thinking about it)
MODG Religion 10 MODG syllabus Mass and the Sacraments
MODG Natural History Science
CHC Catholic Literature Guides
Christ the King, Lord of History with lots of living books! By the way in the workbook they have GREAT suggestions for living books after each chapter.
Japenese with the local teacher in Okinawa
Piano
I hope others on here that are teaching 10th grade this year will continue to share their thoughts and ideas for the upcoming school year!

Religion-"The History of the Church" Didache series
History-Didache Church History as a spring board for
Medieval History. Kolbe recommendations for that time period and other novels.
Seton English 10 (love this course)
Latin 200 with Lone Pine (excellent course too)
Finish Teaching Textbook Geometry begin Algebra 2
Sections from "Exploring The Way Life Works" by Hoagland and selected chapters from Abeka Biology w/tests. "Experiences in Biology Lab Manual" to round out the program
"How to Listen to and Understand Great Music" Teaching Company lectures.
I still have some fine tuning to do, but we used most of the material last year with another 10th grader so it will be minor tweeking.

The Didache Church History book is excellent. Beautifully illustrated, too - you could use some of the pictures for art history.

I have a 10th grade son this year and basically I'm dictating his classes out.
At our Monday co-op he will take:
Apologia Biology class
IEW Writing class
Dave Ramsey Finance class
Literature II (Shakespeare & Chaucer)
LA History
On Thursday, he will meet with other area high school hsers for two of Brent Zeringue's (Iron Will) classes:
American Civics
Religion
I wanted him to take Algebra I at co-op but it's scheduled the same hour as Biology because most 10th graders have already taken it. But he needs Biology so we will continue w/ Algebra I at home using TT.

Your plans look fantastic! I love it all! You must have worked very hard on those! I might have to borrow some of your ideas(if you don't mind:)especially for dictation. The Chief Truths of the Faith is a beautiful book! I felt as if I was learning new things about our Holy Faith right along with my son. Are you planning on using all of the Fr. Laux books for high school?

You really made my day, thank you. Sometimes it is so hard knowing if your homemade plans are 'right' (whatever that means )anyhow you made me smile
'Borrow' away. Dictation is a big part of our learning, it has made a difference in our Language Arts progress.
This is our first foray with Fr Laux, dd really likes him, I think he appeals to her logic. I'm hoping to continue with him for Chiara, but for Dominic(Grade 8) Fr Laux doesn't fit. I'm in the midst of writing and uploading his plans now, better get back to it..

Erin,
You are so welcome!  I know what you mean about homemade plans! I always wonder if mine are right too. I just have to keep thinking to myself is it more important for him to do or read such and such a book or is it more important to provide him with all of the tools to help him have a strong faith that will last a lifetime. I hope :) I want my kids to have a great education, but above all I want them to always have their faith. Sorry for rambling! Have you thought about the Our Holy Faith series for your other child? I think Neumann Press publishes them. My girlfriend uses them and just loves them.

I'm still finalizing some things, but here's the plan so far:
Humanities w/MODG (Ancient Hist,Lit and Religion) - 3 cr.
Algebra I, TT
Natural History w/ MODG
Language is up in the air - he wanted to take Spanish I at the local high school, but they begin w/ Span II (middle schoolers come in having taken Span I). He's working at an Italian restaurant, and I'm wondering if he'll do Italian w/ Rosetta Stone. Otherwise it will be Latin I.
Maybe PE at the local school too.
I wish this were settled....
