Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please share your plans for 11th grade and help me figure out what to do with my mildly dyslexic 16 yr. old ds who will be in 11th grade in the Fall. He earned straight A's with MODG this year (we were enrolled, but are not re-enrolling for a variety of reasons). He still needs more practice with composition and I'd like to introduce him to literary analysis. Any suggestions anyone may have would be most appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Tea,

Religion: Didache - the scripture study one

English: Seton 11 (lots of reading and essay writing)    Also I may add grammar like one of the   warriners english to SAT &/or act prep.

Math: finish saxon advanced math (we are doing this in 3 semesters). Also may get math review books for SAT 1 (and act) math as well as SAT subject math.

history: The american pageant with teaching company dvd's. (this book in big. We are starting before the rest of the subjects, probably in August. And will finish later too)

Spanish: conintue Rosetta Stone version 3

Physics: we did saxon physics last year. Doing Apologia advanced physics this year.

My ds has a few learning issues so it has been tricky to figure out high school. But he is going to a trade school (he wants to be a welder) so the requirements are a bit different. Here is what we are doing:

Math: he wants to try TT geometry. He barely made it through algebra so we will see.

Latin: Henle I (I don't know if he will make it through this either because of his memory problems)

Science: Biology. I am making this up myself using a DVD program and labs.

History: world history using Carroll's book. Using DVD's and living books.

English: unsure but probably doing my own thing via Bravewriter.

elective: PE and metal work

Hi Lisa,
What are you using for Biology- we have similar issues with my upcoming 9th grader with memory and I think the science will floor him (however the Latin has been so good- often easier than english words. Go figure!)

Kristie,

I am using a DVD called Biology 101 along with labs from Experiences in Biology. The DVD only has about 5 hours worth of biology but it comes with a guide how to flesh it out with experiments, field trips, and extra reading. I think this will be good for ds because it won't be as reading intensive and as much memory work. It does have a young earth basis, but if that bothers you, you can use it to compare other theories.

Dd16 starts 11th grade at the end of the month (yikes!)

So far:

Geography - World Physical Geography

Religion - Didache's Understanding the Scriptures

Maths - Mathematics.com.au

Economics -
Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?

Dd has requested textbooks (but has definite ideas
) so still looking for history spines and science texts, also an essay and literature program. Oh and either Italian or Spanish.

Barb, Are you happy with Teaching Company?

Tea,

We are doing a combination of Classical Conversations and some Dual Enrollment Classes. With CC our dd is taking:

American History
Philosophy (fall semester)/ Formal Logic (Winter/Spring semester)
Shakespeare
Algebra II (using Saxon Math)

At the local college she took this semester:

Spanish Advanced Grammar
Chemistry

This next semester she is going to take a Computer class online (also through the local college) and I am thinking about having her take one of the classes at Homeschool Connections.

Did you catch the cheaper option with Homeschool Connections?
