Does anyone have any experience with Brio magazine from Focus on the Family?

We have not seen this (don't have any girls), but an uncle bought my boys the male equivalent -- Breakaway. I have found that in every issue there are articles and "Dear Abbey" questions that my children have not faced (p*rn, er*ctions in public, premarital s*x, homos**uality) and so I don't give them the magazine. It is definitely geared more towards PS kids IMO.

I was given Brio as a girl one year, and second everything Janette has said but from a girl's perspective. But the thing I remember the most was that it was B-O-R-I-N-G!!! and thin.

Thank you for the reviews. Although someone enthusiastically recommended it to me she was not able to provide me with any details so it made me nervous. Thanks for saving me from a bad order.

I got it as a girl, and I'd say it is a good alternative if you have a girl who wants to read some magazine like "Teen" and you want an alternative. So, if they do have questions and are reading the Dear Abbey type stuff from those mags, these are a better alternative. It is cleaner but pretty much as shallow as the secular versions.
But, I wouldn't trust it without reading it first, even with older teens, because Dobson is not opposed to "self abuse" if I may use the older euphamism, etc...
I would think that most homeschooled girls aren't in a place where they need an alternative to the secular stuff in the same way a public school (or even private schooled) child would be.

We have gotten it for a few years and I haven't read anything offensive. There are the Protesant comments about getting saved, but it's just an occasional remark here and there. Like any magazine, there are articles that the girls like and some that they don't. I shy away from most protestant things, but really haven't seen a major problem over the past two years and don't remember anything heavy about s e x. When questions about dating, or occasionally S do come up they questions are normal for the age and the answers talk about your body as the temple of the Holy Spirit and they will also use metaphors. I have only seen Brio and not Brio & Beyond. B&B may be different. It's much meatier and more diverse than True Girl was and while it's not as thick as the magazines in the store it is thicker than most small run publications. It's a little thicker than My Friend was.
