My dh's department had a Thanksgiving potluck today. My dh was assigned to bring 2 pies. Yesterday, my 15yo dd make 2 crustless cranberry pies as something unique for him to bring. My dh brought them to the potluck but wasn't able to stay until the end because he had an appointment. It ends up that the head of the *agency* (not just the department), Mr. D., was able to come to the potluck for a brief visit. Before he left, he made his customary remarks to the whole group. But this time his remarks included thanking my dh for bringing the pies, that they were his favorite part of the meal (no offense to anyone else!), and thanked him for raising such a fine daughter!   Wow! There's more ...

For sometime now, my dh was hoping to run into Mr. D., informally but he is a very busy man. My dh has wanted to discreetly "mention" being up for promotion. Well today, Mr. D. went to dh's office after the potluck to tell him how much he liked the pie! This turned into a 20-30 minute meeting, and yes, my dh mentioned the possible promotion . Mr. D. was very supportive .

One of the reasons my dd homeschools for high school is to give her time to cook. My dh is very supportive .

Do you have any similar stories to share?

Love,

Oh Angie I really love that story. BTW, dd really hated missing visiting with her last trip to your town. So....no, dd is not really "into" the life skills. . She has done the bare minimum of sewing, cooking, knitting, etc. but doesn't break her neck to excel at it. But by being home she's had time to work on sketches like this, which will hopefully be in some form to sell by the CO homeschool convention in June. It is so nice to see the "fruits" so to speak.

ETA: Oh well...I can't get the picture to show up. I'll try again. If anyone has a tip let me know (or I'll just call my teens in for help pretty soon )

Angie -- congrats to your daughter -- can't wait to try this recipe myself! Sensational that the big boss even tried it/liked it....serendipity at its best!

Yumm, Angie! The recipe looks like a winner. Good work by your daughter! And how encouraging for your husband!

Peace,

I was especially impressed myself that she entered the Loveliness of Pies Fair - check out her entry. It looks as delicious as it sounds like it tastes. How's that for a horrible grammatical sentence!

Angie -- just wanted to let you know I made this last night and it was fabulous! We were having ham for dinner and it just sounded like it would "go" with the ham. The sweetness/tanginess of the cranberry and the dressing-like consistency of the pie was a fabulous addition to our meal. This really is a great (and easy) pie recipe.

Off to check the loveliness fair!

Ooh, we'll have to make this! My 13yo daughter loves to cook, and has made English Christmas puddings for years (since we moved back here from England, in fact) for us to give as gifts. We made them together the first year, and after that, she took over -- I am the grocery-store chauffeur, and that's it.

This year she's learned to sew and is making everyone in our extended family pajama trousers for Christmas. All I can say is: it skips a generation. But it sure is wonderful to watch.

I made the crustless pie recipe for a treat yesterday and the pie was GONE by dinnertime. (Not after, before!) A true winner. Promotion-worthy, for sure!
