Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am having a problem with the search box, so I thought I'd just toss this out to all of you.

It looks like the easiest way to get past conservatory admission folks is the GED. No big deal.

Has anyone had a kid who has taken it?

I understand that they will give you a "class rank" based on your scores. Without revealing rank (don't want to be nosy), has anyone used this?

While conservatories expect a GED for most home-schoolers, many liberal arts colleges seem to think it is not necessary. Is there a disadvantage to taking it and reporting it if it is not required?

Has anyone encountered anything negative from anyone--colleges or employers--when presenting GED credentials?

No answer for you, MacBeth. But I just had to pop in to say it is so good to "see" you here! You have been missed!

Hi MacBeth!

My oldest got his GED halfway through 11th grade and went to work. As soon as he turned 18 he applied for and received admission to our city's Police Cadet program and a 4 yr. scholarship to a state university. He didn't finish his degree (and therefore the cadet program) but went on to get a job with a large city 911 dispatch office and none of these were a problem because of the GED. He never used a class rank; I don't even remember if he got one. The conservatory won't take a diploma and/or transcript?

Edited to spell your name right

Macbeth,
My oldest daughter had to take the GED to get a scholarship to a state school but class rank wasn't used. My other daughter and now my oldest son have gone to private colleges without the GED. In all three cases, it was the SAT scores that mattered most.

As far as negatives to having a GED, my oldest got some peer flak but nothing from employers. Brilliance shines through I guess .

Dear Macbeth,
Ahh, now finally a chance to help you!! I have been on the receiving end SO long with all those violin questions

Both older sons took the GED, but the second scored high enough for the college they attend to use it for a class rank If the school needs it for a class rank, the actual score doesn't make as much difference. My 2nd son scored lower (per exact score) than a friend the previous year, but she scored lower than he did in actual rank. So either his test was harder (which he said he thought it was harder than the practice tests at the GED center) or the people taking it just scored lower.

I hope this helps!
Blessings,
Stephanie

Thanks all, both public and private! I feel much more comfortable meeting this requirement now!
