Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

HI again! Now I am wondering what your favorite living history books are of 20th century history. I find ancient living history books abound but am trying to get more modern living history books for my 9th grade ds. Let me know your favorite reads and also sources and lists!

Thanks a bunch. You all are so invaluable as I narrow down my choices for this year!

I love the Emmanuel Books catalog. They are the supplier for Mother of Divine Grace. I always wish I had endless funds when I browse through that one! Of course, Bethlehem Books is fantastic, too. But this is all basic. I can't wait to see others' replies.

Some items from our list:

The Greatest Generation (Tom Brokaw)
Sky of Stone (Homer Hickam - note there are some mild allusions to s*x and drinking)
Red Scarf Girl (Ji-li Jiang)
Animal Farm (George Orwell)
The Mitchells: Five for Victory (Hilda Van Stockum, and I highly recommend The Winged Watchman and The Borrowed House...we have read them in previous years)

Maybe this will get everyone started...

Thanks all,
I also love Emmanuel books. I sometimes will find a title we like or that looks good at Emmanuel books and then search for it on amazon - just to get Amazon's suggestions of what other costomers bought!

Nancy - I have seen the Red Scarf Girl and am thinking of getting it for sometime this year.

Here are some of the titles I have got or am waiting to arrive - (sorry I don't have the author's names for all right in front of me, but can get it when I have more time if you all want):

Flags of our Fathers (James Bradley)
Parallel Journeys (eleanor Ayer)
Shadow of his Wings(Gereon Karl Goldmann)
Endless Steppe
Night

Also I have discovered Sonlight book site to be a good source too.

HI, Well I had to update my list. I read Paralel journeys recently and found it excellent. Then on to Night (oops - forgot the author) my personal opinion is that it is not appropriate for high school. I just didn't need to read some of this stuff - and the nature of it is so that I can't be specific here. Some horrors are too much to take in high school especially of the "explicit" nature. I am not sure of the others yet - so on to more reading for me. I'm not trying to read them completely by school, but I must read and look over them carefully!

Thanks for listening!

George Weigel's biograhy of Pope John Paul 2 ( Witness to Hope) is a great book that covers the Pope's life, and in doing so givces one a living picture of modern history.

I finished it last year. One of my teens is reading it this year.
