Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm preparing a post for my blog on beloved Counting and ABC concept books. I'd love suggestions on any of your favorites. The ones I'm including so far are,

Anno's Counting Book

1 is One (Tasha Tudor)

A is for Annabelle (Tasha Tudor)

G is for Goat (Patricia Polacco)

B is for Bethlehem (Isabel Wilner)

I'm looking forward to seeing this list as it grows! One of our favorites is Alphabears. I'll add more later when I get a minute or two.

Baby Bear Counts One (Ashley Wolfe) - I am a big Ashley Wolfe fan. Her illustrations are amazing and make this story so vibrant and alive.

When I found it I was trying to find a place to post it. This is the only "counting book" thread we have. Would love to see more books added even thought it is well past the time when Ellie was requesting suggestions.

I have a child learning her letters and these are the alphabet books we are using.

An Alphabet of Catholic Saints by Brenda & George Nippert (bright & cheerful pictures and rhymes)

Alphabet City by Stephen T. Johnston (find the letter formed by the scene - a fun challenge)

ABCs Naturally by Diebel and Kalscheur (It's a favorite here with photos of letters found in nature with a rhyme. It also has a Facts and Folklore note for each photo and the end notes encourage the reader to become their own alphabet hunter :-) )

Museum ABC (just a good art appreciation book- my older children keep asking to see the pictures when I'm reading it to my younger)

The Wildlife ABC & 123 by Jan Thornhill (interesting art style and nature notes)

Alphabeasts by Wallace Edward (absurd pictures are fun)

and last but not least

Mother Goose in California by Doug Hansen (We may be nowhere near California but the gentle humor of the illustrations coupled with classic nursery rhymes makes this a favorite. The only problem with this book is that I haven't found as nice a one for where I live )
