Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have trouble every year finding nice Advent candles that don't burn up too quickly. We like to light them every night. Maybe if I ask here (and get myself organized ), I can buy them in time this year!

Oh, I just LOVE that mother-of-all-Advent-candle threads!!!!

I cannot recommend HIGHLY ENOUGH the Advent tapers at Big Dipper Wax Works!!! Beautiful violet and rose color, they smell lovely, and they are virtually drip free! They burn so beautifully! I've bought them for a couple of years now and now I have two "leftover sets" of candles that we'll use up this year in order to be frugal.

I finally bit the bullet this year and ordered a set of 12 white beeswax tapers from Williams Sonoma. Our wreath had the same 4 for 12 years or more that dh used even before we were married. They probably weren't burnt as often or long before kids, but they definitely long burning and a value. I bought a set of Advent candles locally last year that were quickly spent and drippy, so I'm going back to what I know. I do like the white candles, which are acceptable liturgically by the way. In the past, we had ribbon tied at the base of the candle in purple and rose.

I tend to buy my candles "in bulk". I still have a few Coyote Found candles, I have the ones from the Mount Savior Monastery I'll keep using this year, and then Big Dipper Wax Works are waiting in the wings.

Like Jen said, beeswax candles burn so slowly that I can save some (especially from short 4th week of Advent) to create another set for another year.

A local buying club is doing a group wholesale buy of Big Dipper candles. I'm excited to be able to try them! Just wanted to let folks know that the company offers that option, if you and some friends want to stock up and candles, Advent and otherwise.

Those are lovely. These are the ones Jessica bought! I'm reading the Monastery Candle Shop site and see that they are palm oil candles? Interesting!

I'm finally getting around to this topic, as we make a somewhat weak attempt at preparing for the first Sunday of Advent. After fretting that we hadn't gotten candles yet, checking online with minimal success, "lo and behold" one dc checked our Advent wreath hatbox, where they "miraculously" discovered our candle holders already filled with fresh candles! Either we never used our wreath last year, since we were seldom home while caring for mil after her stroke, OR I was incredibly organized, bought two sets, added the new set after Advent last year, then promptly forgot all about it! Knowing myself lately it has to be the former rather than the latter, but I'm absolutely thrilled to have one less thing to do ~ without even trying! If only ALL of life's tasks were that simple!

I have friends that use pillar candles and burn them daily (most of the day, actually). Since they are pillars, they last all Advent. A local shop in the mall here will custom pour pillars in the colors of your choice if you ask.

I know this is late, but I had to post that for those on a very tight budget such as ours, there are lavender and pink candles sold individually, in votive($.50), and possibly tapers, as well as nice bigger ones in glass jars($1.00) about the size of 2 votives I think, at Walmart. I was so happy to find them, and replace our old votives this year for only $2.00 all together! It felt so good to get the Advent prep put together miraculously in the midst of an incredibly busy last minute addition project on our home before the major snows hit! And I was so happy to get them affordably .
