Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

In this thread last year we were wondering about dedicating special years. So there wasn't a dedicated year this past year and there won't be one this year either but one has just been announced for 2012-13. This weekend Pope Benedict announced the Vatican will dedicate a special year of efforts to give “renewed impulse to the mission of all the church.”

The “Year of Faith” will begin on Oct. 11, 2012, the 50th anniversary of the start of the Second Vatican Council. It will run from Oct. 11, 2012, until Nov. 24, 2013, which is the Solemnity of Christ the King.

NCRegister wrote:
“It will be a moment of grace and commitment to a more complete conversion to God, to strengthen our faith in him and proclaim him with joy to the people of our time,” said the Pope, making his announcement during Sunday Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica.

The Pope said in his Oct. 16 remarks that it will give “new impetus to the mission of the whole Church to lead men out of the desert in which they often find themselves, to the place of life, of friendship with Christ.”

He also said that “reasons, purposes and guidelines” for the year will be set out in an apostolic letter to be published “in the coming days.”

I'm excited to see this and look forward to reading more in the coming apostolic letter.

it does sound wonderful ... especially now that I have time to prepare! (I do, right?) wait, what year are we in again?

Here is the beginning of a note from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, containing proposals for ways to live the upcoming Year of Faith. Was just issued this week.

Quote:
Vatican Note on Upcoming Year of Faith

"The Foundation of Christian Faith Is the Encounter With an Event, a Person"

* * *

CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITH
Note with pastoral recommendations for the Year of Faith

Introduction

With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Porta fidei, Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith. This year will begin on 11 October 2012, on the 50thanniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and will conclude on 24 November 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.

This year will be a propitious occasion for the faithful to understand more profoundly that the foundation of Christian faith is "the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction."1 Founded on the encounter with the Risen Christ, faith can be rediscovered in its wholeness and all its splendor. "In our days too faith is a gift to rediscover, to cultivate and to bear witness to" because the Lord "grants each one of us to live the beauty and joy of being Christians."2

The beginning of the Year of Faith coincides with the anniversaries of two great events which have marked the life of the Church in our days: the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, called by Blessed Pope John XXIII (11 October 1962), and the twentieth of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, given to the Church by Blessed Pope John Paul II (11 October 1992).

(continued...)

Here's the Apostolic Letter “Motu Proprio Data" Porta Fidei of the Supreme Pontiff Benedict XVI for the Indiction of the Year of Faith.
