Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone here use one? Did you make it or buy it? Do you have pictures??
Thanks for any help. I am wanting to make one this year, and not quite sure which way to go about it.

O Night Divine--Jesse Tree

There are a lot of pictures there. I was thinking of doing the symbols on shrink art paper this year, but that's as far as I got and it would be our first.

A few years ago Jenn GM did a blog fair for Advent and there were several links where people shared their Jesse Trees with pictures. That might be particularly helpful for seeing actual pictures.

There are also literally dozens of older threads here about Jesse Trees - some include pictures but I'm not sure which ones. There really is a wealth of information in those posts.

My daughter made us a new Jesse tree banner last year.

We then printed out pictures to use as the Jesse tree decorations-I laminated these and then placed them on the tree with an ornament hook.

For years now I have attended a Jesse Tree ornament exchange party. The group was great fun and the ladies lovely, but it was Protestant friends.

The few Jesse Tree books I have are all also Protestant. I wished for a truly Catholic version of the book that corresponded with the ornament set I already had and the sets I wished to give to Catholic friends and family.

So this year I took the 25 symbols and created a Catholic booklet myself, using the search feature from an on-line version of The Catechism of the Catholic Church. I feel blessed by what I learned from this effort.

I am happy to share the booklet. The pdf file is in a post from the netsmith below.

Vanessa, here's our tree from last year. We really liked the sparkly ice tree, it was a few bucks at KMart and my dd made one new ornament each day as we read aloud. At KMart again (gotta love Martha!) we found really pretty purple and silver gift tags and she simply colored the appropriate symbol on the back.

Victoria - the booklet is lovely! Thank you for sharing it with us. I skimmed through it briefly just now, but I'm hoping to be able to print it off and more thoroughly read through it tonight or tomorrow. Thank you again!

Vanessa, Our homeschool group did a Jesse Tree ornament exchange last year. One woman organized it with a list of symbols and it was on a first come, first serve basis. We each made several of the same ornament, then exchanged them at a little Advent social. The symbols were to be made of 3D type crafty materials and around the size of a regular ornament. It was so fun, seeing all the neat ideas and creative ways people made their ornaments.

I know people sometimes make their symbols all from felt to be put on a felt tree or some just from paper. We did the paper ones one year and my girls enjoyed taking turns coloring the symbols. We got them out of a book.

Thanks, Victoria for the booklet! I had the symbols but no book to go with it!

We *love* our Jesse Tree, it's probably the biggest deal we do all Advent. The kids are crazy about it. Here's pics from last year.

First Sunday of Advent

Wow, I can't believe it's that time so soon again!!!

Victoria,
Thanks so much for sharing. I am doing a felt Jesse tree for the first time this year and am excited to read your booklet along with what I am doing. Maybe for future years I will modify some of the images and create my own felt pieces, since the version I will use this year is a bit different.
Heidi
