Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have this digital piano just sitting there and no teacher because of the expense of lessons and not wanting to commit to such an expense that may not be sustainable, or waste money on a not-so-great teacher or one who is not a great match for our child, etc.

Anyway, we just need to jump on this, because he's 7 now. I will still be looking for a teacher if we can find a situation that works for us, but can anyone recommend a good home learning system for children that can be used with the guidance of parents who, although not without some musical ability, don't really play the piano themselves?

Teresa - my older kids used a program at home - I will try and remember what it is and let you know.

Also if you are interested - our piano teacher is 5 minutes from you - a lovely Christian lady, very reasonable rates - all my boys started with her when they were 5. Let me know if you want her details - maybe you could do a couple of trial lessons over the summer?

I'd like to hear about the program used at home, since I don't think your piano teacher will come to Ohio

God bless,
Christine

I cannot find any web information for the program we used. It was for very young children - all of my 4 older children used it from 3 to 5 - I cannot even find the book - it had Timmy the Toucan and Willy the Mammoth - that's all the info! BUT I have looked at this program and almost used it instead of lessons for my 5 year old - Kinderbach

I may consider it for my Michael when he is 3 or 4 as he is so interested in the piano and I am not sure how we will afford lessons for 5.

Teresa - I will pm you the info for my piano teacher - she really is wonderful with kids - Matt actually started when he was 4 and just had his first piano recital

Theresa - We do this!

We use Alan Jemison's Music Series for the Piano.

Theresa - I am not sure if you have contacted my piano teacher or not. I found a piano program I bought last year which I have not used - Alfred's Little Mozart - Book and cd - you are welcome to have them. I had gott them for M. when he started, but he ended up doing Faber and Faber. Also found the Timmy Toucan home music school book - I cannot find the cassette (yes - you are reading right - it came with a tape!!) or the VHS - but you are welcome to the book - this one is for very young children (3 years-4 years)

Hi Marilyn,

We actually did contact your teacher and DS7 has been taking lessons with her this summer. Most likely, she will have space for him in the fall as well. She is really nice and he is really enjoying and learning from his lessons! Thanks for the great recommendation.

I am in the market for some piano learning for DS5 now -- with special needs -- I'll have to do some research to see if the programs you mention might work for him. We do have some software in mind that I read about on a special needs homeschooling list -- it's called Children's Music Journey and sounds really good, just haven't made a final decision yet.

Hmmm - thanks for those links, Jen. I've never heard of the Faber series and was just trying to decide which Bastien series to start my 6 and 7 yo girls who want to learn. My teachers used Bastien - the pictures in the books are so colorful and fun - but I didn't start until I was in 3rd grade. Was going to go to a music store next weekend and browse.
