Anyone using this?
We are straying away from Story of the World (we did vol. 1 and loved it, but I do not have the knowledge to tease out the inaccuracies in the later volumes ). I am seriously thinking about using CHoTW as a spine, as it seems to read in a similar way.
I like the route we've been going - read a chapter, map work, activities, narration pages, extra reading on the topic - but wondering if someone has already worked out all the sources.
How are you using this book?
Oh, and has anyone used Calvert's lessons to go along with? What are they like? I cannot seem to get a preview. Here's a link.
Thanks everyone and Happy Easter!!!

I was just thinking the same thing.... I am feeling lazy and don't know if I want to be on red alert through SOTW 2 (though we hugely enjoyed the first volume).
I have been looking at The Story of the Nations from Simply Charlotte Mason as well.

I have used A Child's History multiple times. First, I used it with the (older) Calvert plans, then for subsequent students I used it without plans. The plans are nice, but pretty basic, and I think your approach of narration, map work, etc. is more enriched, so I would not recommend you paying for the plans.
The way I am currently using this resource is as a supplement and reinforcement. When we studied Ancient Mesopotamia, I assigned the chapters on that era of history. This year, I assigned the chapters on Ancient Greece and also Ancient Rome, in anticipation of studying Rome next (kind of a preview). In addition to this book, I add lots of supplemental reading, both read-alouds and books the children can read to themselves at their reading levels, maps, some (few) activities, etc.
This is a pleasant way to reinforce what my children are learning in history, provide reading practice and narration practice, and make sure we are covering the key events and personalities of each time period we study.
Unfortunately, I stink at keeping written plans, pretty much just flying by the seat of my pants...so I can't help out there. I'm trying to improve on this!

I am in the same boat- finishing up SOTW1 and not going to use SOTW2.
I am getting A Child's History of the World along with the Connecting With History Vol. 2 from RC History.
I will probably end up switching to Connecting with History all togehter since it has multiple book lists that can be used togehter as a family.

Oh, I just wanted to add that I started this thread a few months ago and got a lot of help on this same subject.

Agreed! Plus, my oldest is a HUGE history nerd and will devour anything in front of her on the subject, so even having the volume in the house is dangerous!
The CM books look intriguing - please post an update if you go that route - would love to hear how those books are.
Stellamaris: Thank you for the info on the plans. You saved me a few dollars. And I can relate to the "flying by the seat of my pants" .
kristacecilia: I have been eyeing up RC History, too for a long time. Have you used Volume 1? I am wondering if it provides much more than a great booklist? Thanks for the link, too.

No, I haven't used RC History before... I am hoping the switch from SOTW to CWH will be mostly seamless.
I do know that CWH takes a much more living books approach to history, which is what I wanted to do eventually, and that I can use it with multiple grades so we can continue on doing history as a family to make things easier for me.
My goal has always been to get to a point where we were using living books and a Book of Centuries, so this will be ideal. Once we get to about age 10 I will give them each their own Book of Centuries (I like this one that Jen (Mackfam) recommended awhile ago. So for me, a great booklist is pretty much what I want. We quite often don't get to all the activities in SOTW and my sons prefer just to do the mapwork and the extra reading.
