Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Ladies,

I know many of you reside in Virginia and was wondering what you did for Kindergarten? My oldest will be 5 in June and I'm not sure whether I should just keep her out, which I'm not crazy about since I seem to be required to say she is not "mentally, physically, or emotionally ready to attend school" or say we are homeschooling and deal with the school board that way. There's also the religous exemption route, but didn't know what to expect from Loudoun county.

We don't expect to be in VA when she's first grade age, but you never know. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bethany,
I don't remember having to say that. I just wrote and said that we were deferring Kindergarten entrance because I wanted to give my child an opportunity to have another year to develop mentally, physically, and emotionally at home.

Thank you Elizabeth.

I was quoting the complusory attendance statute, but I think your letter states it perfectly.

Has anyone had a problem deferring kindergarten and they applying for the religious exemption?

Thanks,

Bethany

It's really easy in Loudoun County, Bethany. HSLDA lives here; no one messes with us .

Wait, as I write that, I realize you live near me! Welcome! Where ARE you (just a town, not an address).

I thought that might be the case in Loudoun county. We live in Leesburg. Thanks for your help!
