Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For those of you in states that require testing- how do you handle it? Do you have a professional tester come to your house, or if you use a curriculum, do you use a test provided by that company? If using a curriculum company test, can you request whatever test level you want? For instance, if you started K early with your child and then moved on to 1st grade, could you still request a K test if that is where your child would be in ps?

Can you tell I am clueless? Thanks for your input

Melinda:

I am in a state that requires yearly testing, however the parent makes the decisions about what test and when and where it is given. The parent is the one who pays for the test and they are the only ones to receive the results.

I do the test in March - in fact I just ordered it on Tuesday so it should be here today or tomorrow. I keep it very informal -- we do it at the kitchen table!

I use the CAT-E test, and I have purchased it through Seton. You can also buy a prep test booklet if so desired. Their website is pretty informational.

I think you should get the test that covers the grade level that you have worked on the most with your child.

Hope this helps!

I have used the testing service from Family Learning Organization (FLO) . It's the CAT-5 test. Their site is very helpful in answering questions about testing (what level to use, etc.).

Years ago, someone told me the pros and cons of using FLO versus Seton. I believe they are the same test(?), but I think one (perhaps Seton?) provides more feedback post-grading.

In any event, we've been satisfied with FLO. There is no testing required here in Wisconsin, but we've done the tests twice over the course of the last six homeschooling just for my sake -- so I have a better sense of where the strengths and weaknesses are in my own children.

Another reason why so many Minnesotans move to Wisconsin....
