Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This may be a very basic question, but I'm very interested in following rabbit trails with Unit studies, lapbooks, etc, but am not sure how to get started. One question I have is how to do this for very different ages. For instance, we have been doing some of the Curious George unit activities, but only the three littles (two five yr olds and an eight yr old) because it seems like my 13 yr old should be hearing stories on a higher level. How have you adapted or chosen books based on your children's ages?

Thanks,
Grace

some units are more geared to an age group. Others lend themselves to stretching better. For instance Curious George might require some real gymnastics to adapt very far. A time period is easier. Say pioneer days. Littles can read picture books and make stage coaches from boxes or wagons. 13 yr olds can read about the westward movement, Indians, pioneer medicine etc. All can hear the Little House bks read aloud and work on a special project like a quilt or making butter.

Another example would be the Rainforest unit posted here. Little ones can read picture bks about the animals and plants and color Jan Brett murals. Olders can research products marketed from the area and the issues of deforestation. They can map the region or chart the precipitation data.

So picking a topic that can be enjoyed on many levels is most helpful. History, religion, geography, science and the arts all work well here.
