Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am a newbie or more accurately a neophyte to homeschooling. (See my intro. on the fireside chat). I purchased Elizabeth's book and really enjoy her thoughts and ideas, but I'm still unclear as to how to implement CM.

I know this is a "stupid" question, but I do not understand the narration piece. My basic understanding is that "living books" are fiction or non-fiction books on a particular area of interest, but how does narrating fit in? Can you recommend 1 or 2 resources to explain this further? I cannot afford alot of books to train me but would invest in 1 practical guide. I've also searched our local library for 2 cm books ("Educating the whole hearted child" and "For the children's sake".) In the entire library system they have 1 copy of each and both are out for an undetermined time.

So I'm looking for simple direction from real people. Any ideas?

Thank you,

Kelly

No such thing as a 'stupid' question!!

For us, and I'm not sure if this is the 'method' or not, but it's what works for us, narration is when my children tell me about what they just read, and I write it, or they write it, or they illustrate it. In my mind this is different than testing or quizing them, because 1. I don't ask any questions, I just let it flow out of them. and 2. They are usually so excited about what they read (the beauty of living books!!) that I don't even have to ask them to do an oral narration.

I'm sure the other ladies will have wonderful insight on this. Welcome to homeschooling!
