Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm considering this...
I know some of you do this for business reasons or maybe it's like a personal public diary...
I don't have either of those reasons, so I wonder if there would be any benefit to me to do it? Is it hard to maintain? Are there fees? Recommendations? Cautions?

I'm thinking it would be nice to have somewhere that the in-laws can visit to see what's going on, but honestly I don't know that they'd care enough to bother.

Opinions?

Oh Martha, I would love for you to blog!

My blog is just for fun, for anyone who cares to keep up with us, and maybe, along the way to be a good example of Catholic family life.

And what an awesome record of your families activities and growth.

It threw me a little that anyone actually reads mine. But people are so kind about it.

Marhta,

Don't be afraid to jump right in and get wet!

I do mine becuase I love to write and it's good practice. Also, I'm pretty opinionated (yeah, I know, you couldn't tell ) and this is a great way to voice my concerns.

Further, it's a great way to record what we've done in our homeschool -- kind of legitimizes the fun we're having!

For my knitting one, it's kind of a business one -- I do hand-knit designs and I love to write about knitting.

Martha,

It really is so much fun. I started it with encouragement from my husband, and I do it for many of the same reasons Bridget stated. My oldest son helps me through the 'mechanics' of it, and we all get a kick out of it. (I use wordpress, and it's free!)

okay... so I'm willing to venture...
blogger should I use? (It's gotta be free and I've got dialup net service if it matters!)

and what to name it? I'm leaning towards The Lady in the Shoe, but I usually do know what to do with them...

I started mine simply as a place where our out of town family can see photos and what we're doing...same as you, Martha, as none of our family lives near us.

And, it's just sort of morphed into a place where I record what we're doing, funny things, ideas, etc. It's so fun to go back and look at it with the kids. DH also says it's fun for him to look at when he's out of town.

My mom prints out the posts and pictures and collects them for me....so,even if i'm not on top of my photo albums (not the online ones ) at least I'm recording SOMEHTING! "anything is better than nothing" or so say my scrapbooking friends.

DH and I had a conversation about the lack of privacy thing....using pseudonyms (as lots of people do), etc. So, that was one thing we talked about before starting it.

I tried blogger and typepad and one other one (can't remember the name right now)....typepad was SO EASY, so for me....worth the $50/year for it.

I LOVE reading everyone's blogs....it's very helpful for those of us just starting out to see REAL LEARNING!

Martha,

I think for a mom it's the best way to keep a journal.

I also plan on printing out my pages and putting a binder together. That way, I can chronicle our lives, activities, thoughts, etc in a way that I wouldn't have been able to do. We'll have a "Book" of each year that I blog...a family diary.

I would say it's an easy way of scrapbooking without the cutting and pasting...which for me, with only 4 children, would be alot.

Martha,

I started one in June. I initially started it so that my family (who live three thousand miles away) could see what we do during school hours. As it turned out, they don't read it. But I can't stop now. lol I have become addicted. I am a thinker but I have difficulty turning my thoughts into spoken words. I can, though, turn them into written words. I need to get my thoughts out of my head so that I can sleep at night. Blogging does this for me.

Also, it's nice to have a forum where I can talk about homeschooling and not worry about whether I am going to be criticized for the choices that I have made.

The condition of getting a blog was that it had to be free. Well, I only knew of one that was free and that was homeschool blogger(I am sure that there are more.) It is very easy to use, very easy. That is important because I am painfully computer illiterate.

I hope that you take the plunge.

Blessings,
Julia

Martha,

I hope you do start a blog.
I think of my blog as my home on the web and other peoples' blog as their little places where I can stop and visit.   Every one is unique and I think you would have a neat perspective with your life with all your littlies.

I use blogger.com and homeschooljournal.net because they are free. Both are easy to use too.

I haven't had any bad experiences. I don't use pseudonyms and I do occasionally post pictures of the kids but I try to avoid too many personal details and I also try to avoid writing about things that my kids or friends or relatives would find an invasion of privacy.

It's been a good way to record my thoughts and what's going on in our life. Somehow, blogging gives me a bit more incentive to keep up with it than does private journalling.

Lisa -
I went with word press because they seemed to be more user friendly and I like purple.

http://marthaamdg.wordpress.com/

What's the flicker ? photos thingy option? Is that where we can put pictures? My dh says if I like this and keep it up then at the beginning of the year we might switch to typepad...

Mine looks so plain and boring compared to everyone else's! lol

You all are inspiring me to try to do this blogging. I feel so out of it, but feel the need to "download" alot of experiences without wanting to "blog" up forums and such.

Any advice for a first timer before I get started?
