I just have to gush! 
We began officially on Tuesday and here we are at the end of our first week of HS, ever!
Oh what a blessing it is! I was nutso on Monday night and Tuesday morning. It was also the first day of preschool for my 4yr old twins so that added to the busy-ness. But, by the mid-morning I was grooving with my boys and really getting into stuff.
The next few days were better and better and I see so much fruit from HS already. I feel closer to my boys and all of the children are getting along and we just feel closer as a family. My husband admitted to me last night how he was on board with HS, but privately felt it would be very difficult and hard for us. He told me this after saying evening prayers with one of my sweet boys who thanked God for our homeschool. I am tearing up just telling that! DH is thrilled with this and so am I and so are the boys.
I know we will have frustrations ahead and some bumps in the road, but I am so thankful to be off to such a positive start.
I just want to thank everyone in this lovely board for all of the great ideas and conversations. HS is such a wonderful and natural way of parenting my children. I really feel privledged with this opportunity. I am so choked up now right now.
So far the only negative thing is I discovered I am a curriculum junkie  I just keep finding new and interetsing things and I want to try them all. I am reigning myself in a bit because I don't want to overwhelm us.
So anyway, thanks again you great, trendsetting, pathmaking veteran homeschooling moms out there! God Bless you for going first and giving me the confidence to follow!

Tracy,
I had to laugh! Our oldest is Jake too (though he's 16 years old)! 
Our second is Zach, but our daughter, Sarah would have been Luke if she was a boy. She's not anything like a boy.
Anyway, I'm so glad you had a great first week. Print out this first week, and keep it in an encouragement folder, because not all weeks will be great. It's the journey that matters most, and those great weeks we need to hold on to so that the valley times are bearable.
The Lord gave me some very wise words last year, that will carry us through to the end of our journey. He told me very certainly that *Your goal is not to prepare them for college, it's to prepare them for Heaven!* That's given me a completely different perspective to our homeschool, and our year this year has been more of a blessing than every so far!
It sounds to me like you're off to a great start! May the Lord continue to bless you on this wonderful journey! 
p.s. I'm a curriculum junkie too. God uses that as my ministry to help other home schooling moms in their curriculum choices. I don't buy as much that way!

I am a complete and total curriculum junkie...it's a compulsion and an addiction, really. I mean: what will be PERFECT????? I am always searching for that Holy Grail. I really should just divest myself of ALL of it and get out of bondage!
Books especially. There are soooooo many books my children just NEED to be able to have access to at all times! Some of the best moments are sharing all of those wonderful books together! Literally, they have been (mostly) educated from our vast collection of living books. Ahhhhhh....homeschooling has really just brought out my secret dream to be a librarian. Thanks for sharing your joy.
