Hi there,
I was trying to round out my small fries (ds4 and dd6) school and was wondering about the Building Thinking Skills for Primary. It's by Critical Thinking Co. It uses pattern blocks, snap blocks, and attribute blocks... Is it fun for kids and mom? Is it easy to use? Are the lessons short? I found it in the Timberdoodle catalog and I normally like their stuff and their reviews...

Alison -

This is actually kind of fun. It can be kept quite short by only doing a couple of pages at a sitting; then again, your children might think it's interesting or fun or whatever and decide to keep going. The Primary books you're talking about have mainly to do with spatial perception -- things like matching shapes or seeing that the shapes are the same, only rotated or the same shape but a different proportion, that kind of thing. For a 4 and a 6 year old they would be good and help develop observational skills and concentration, I think. My dc have enjoyed using them, at least.

That was my hope for my non-readers

Something fun but still working on those visual/concentration skills.
Now to see if it's in the budget after our trip to PetSmart... who knew hermit crabs could cost so much
