What are some typical hobbies your older child to teens have and how much time is spent on them? Our days seem to revolve around school and chores and I would like to involve more hobbies if possible. Money is tight, very tight, so we cannot afford something like flying lessons!

my dd (15) plays the guitar, makes jewelry, sews, blogs, sings all day long.... bakes when i let her....

Knitting, crocheting sewing. My oldest dd is very creative and basically just uses scraps and left over yarn. Time varies based on time and desire to accomplish a new idea. Annie

We have sort of a hobby crisis here. My dd is no problem. She always has several hobbies and is always trying new ones. Those that require little money are drawing, pen pals, knitting (check the thrift store for bags of yarn), Rosary and jewelry making, etc.

But my boys do not seem to stick with a hobby as they get older. They love building models but they are so fast it gets to be expensive to buy new supplies so often. None of them seem to get excited about woodworking, stamps, etc. as they enter their teens.

14 yo ds did enter a model and diarama at the County Fair for 4H and won Reserve Grand Champion, so I think there is a little motivation to try other projects this next year. If you have 4H there, look into the clubs and see if any have good programs for model rocketry, baking, cake decorating, sewing, etc. Yes, it's another activity to add in but most 4H functions are for the whole family and the family works together and goes to fair together, so it's not like all the activities that split up the dc and parents.
