Now that I've been to my first real homeschooling conference (no wait, it's no longer a real homeschooling conference, it was a "Family Expo" ) I've got many questions about things I saw there.
I won't overwhelm you all at once so here is the first. NEST Videos -- does anyone have any? Do you like them? Can anyone recommend any? Are they Catholic (or at least not anti- ?)
Thanks...

No, they are not Catholic. They aren't really anti-Catholic, but there are a couple I find questionable because the worldview is Protestant. The ones I've seen that are slightly problematic are the Joan of Arc, Columbus, Galileo. If you stay away from topics like that when you know there could be issues with the Church the others like all the Old Testament ones and most of the general history ones are generally pretty good.

Amy,
My library carries all of these. Have you checked your library? Maybe you could watch some before you buy. We have enjoyed them (especially the American History ones like George Washington, though I did dislike Joan of Arc as Mary mentioned), but I am not sure they are worth buying. There is another series that is specifically Catholic that is very similar and my library carries that as well. I can't remember the name of the company, seems like its initials were CCC and one of the titles I remember was "St. Francis Xavier and the Samurai's Sword."

Our NEST videos are well-worn from all the viewing. We have the Old Testament set as well as a copy of The Miracles of Jesus (which never fails to make me all weepy, especially the scene where Jesus heals the little boy).
They're good videos, Amy. Animated Bible stories are a great way to bring them to life for the little ones, and the NEST videos are very well-done.
PS. I haven't seen the Joan of Arc or Galileo versions to give you an opinion.
PPS. Oh, and all the CCC videos & DVDs are excellent and very Catholic.

I am so glad this thread was started. I looked at these last year at our homeschool conference. If I remember correctly they come with activity sheets. Has anyone used them and how are they? Aren't the DVD's interactive also?

Library and Educational Services has the Nest videos on a clearance sale for only $3.75 each or $56.81 for the whole set of 19 videos. (This is the videos and not the dvds and no activity books are mentioned.) You need to creat an account and login in order to view their site, by the way. I've ordered a few things on audio from them before and have been happy with the service.

We have one Nest Video, the Animated Passion for children. Our dc love it! We are impressed with it, and I never saw anything against the Faith in it. We purchased it at Walmart.
Twice now, we have had different babysitters watching it when we arrived home from a date! They were both crying!

I have never seen NEST at WalMart, but they *do* rarely have sales where you can buy all of the (for instance) animated history titles for about 1/2 of retail.
I never tried their Biblical stuff since I knew it wasn't Catholic and wasn't ever endorsed by a Catholic. I even e-mailed them asking them *why* they had endorsements by Jews and many protestants, but no Catholic. I received no response.
