Hi everyone,
The kids and I will be making the 12 hour trip from NY to NC next month and I am looking for some audio book ideas to help pass the time there and back. My kids are 9,5 and 4 (with the oldest 2 being boys).
We've already done (and really enjoyed) the Mysterious Benedict series, the Penderwicks, Sign of the Beaver, Freddie the Dective series, Secret Garden, Five Little Peppers, Caddie Woodlawn, Moffets, Rascal, and probably others that I am drawing a blank on.
Anyone have any other ideas? My sister just suggested Carry On, Mr. Bowditch narrated by Jim Weiss, so I will probably get that.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

We like the audio books by Thornton W. Burgess, available for free download on Librivox. Or if you are looking to purchase audiobooks on CD as you don't know how or have time to do downloads, we are getting ready to sell these on CD on our audio website we are building and could have them ready to sell.
We just got back from a 12 hour trip home from my parents and we all enjoyed listening to the Burgess books on CD, even the 3 year old and us adults. He does such a great job at noticing the quirks of the different animals in nature and adding them to the personality of the characters.
Our top recommendations on the list would be any of the books read by John Lieder he does an excellent job of reading, right up there with Jim Weiss. The titles read by him include: The Adventures of Buster Bear , The Adventures of Reddy Fox , The Adventures of Jimmy Skunk , The Adventures of Johnny Chuck , and The Adventures of Paddy Beaver.

I second Mr. Bowditch! 
It's a fabulous story- really draws you in.
The Ralph Moody series, starting with Little Britches, is great as well.
If you liked Caddie Woodlawn, you will like it.
If you haven't tried the Redwall books, you can't beat the action and adventure in those- very boy friendly.

I second these. We also really enjoyed The Story of Seabiscuit narrated by Jim Weiss.

The Wizard of Oz series is great, too. It looks like all of them are on Librivox.

Our whole family loves the Winnie the Pooh books. We have them from audible. On librivox we enjoyed the Just So Stories, the Thornton Burgess stories, and the Psammead triology stories (Five Children and It, The Phoenix and the Carpet, The Story of the Amulet). Peter Pan is another favorite here.
I third the Redwall series. Redwall is probably the best.

We finished a seven hour road trip and my two youngest listened to Andrew Lang's Fairy Tale Books and Glory Stories Volumes 1-11.

Dont laugh but my kids loved the John Adams dvd series featuring paul giametti. If you have a dvd player, its a good option (especially if you r studying Am Rev:-))
We also liked the cd of The Cat of Bubastes (Henty?).
