Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Kind of a spin off re another question I had about using ILL for my rising 7th grader instead of Lingua Mater who struggles with many aspects of language...reading, writing etc. He has consistently been about 3 years behind in regards to his peer level. That also is kind of in some ways played out in regards to his maturity level too.

At any rate, my thought is getting him ready for high school, getting him ready for beyond whatever God calls him to be and do in life and sending him out in the world with a "real" high school education.

So, if a child struggles, even if I went all CM with him, he would still be doing about the 4-6 grade level now so when he got to high school he'd most likely still be working on a middle school curriculum guideline. So, is that still "acceptable" to give him high school credit? For example, in 9th grade, if he's still working on a 7th grade English curriculum, should I legitimately give him a 9th grade English course credit?

And the volume of work and reading required using many of the CM outlines I've seen would still be a substantial load for him b/c of the amount of time it takes him to complete his work. And that's truly not counting dawdling along but just the time it takes him to process information. Again, it's the rule of 3 for him...3x as long to process info, 3x as long to complete the work so short of having him work 3x as much to do the same level of work has never been a happy family choice.

I posted this bit at the bottom of my post over on your other thread.

As for high school. Worry about it when he gets there, because the difference between now and then will blow your mind. But yes, if the high school work must be paired down to his level of ability, then he would still receive high school credit for it. By that point, you will have documentation of his needed adjustments and any institution or service asking for details will expect his transcript to reflect his testing and related modifications.

Yes, thank you Martha. He has had testing in 1st grade, 4th grade and again this past year so we have documents reflecting his needed modifications. Thanks for reminding me of that. I just don't want to "dumb down" his education and am constantly questioning whether I'm holding him back or pushing too hard.
