Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you were me, pregnant with your 7th child due in February, and had a child in 5th, 4th, 2nd, and 1st grade, plus a 4 year old and a 2 year old, what homeschooling curriculum/method would you use?

I'd keep doing whatever you're already doing for math and reading and grammar and take unschooly breaks on all the rest.. changing too much will only create new problems for the kids.. keeping the familiar, keeping a routine.. those are good things.

CM

I would focus on family read alouds (especially letting the older children read aloud) while nursing. Let the kids do independent reading and self-directed projects. All mom intensive stuff would stop for a couple of months!

I would take a serious look at what's working...keep it. Then I'd look at what's not...lose it. The things you weed out, do they need to be replaced with something else, or can they go by the wayside for a time?

Yes, that would be my big question, what have you been doing and what has worked? The best thing is to keep things going that have been successful (If it ain't broke...). How do your children learn best? Do they need mom-intense education or especially the older ones self-directed?

I do lean towards CM, and I do think it would work a bit in your children. Read-alouds all together, and narration would be more of a "classroom" setting (Ambleside Schools Videos and Eve Anderson videos give a glimpse of a classroom setting). I don't mean recreate a school setting, but you are doing narration, picture study in a group setting.

Just looking at your ages, it seems you could combine 4th and 5th math, and 1st and 2nd math. History could all be done together -- CWH gears towards that approach.

I shouldn't even be responding here since I don't have the experience, but just had that thought I wanted to share. Throw it out if it's completely impractical
