Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Worlds I know

I can read the pictures
by myself
in the books that lie
on the lowest shelf.
I know the place
where the stories start
and some I can even say
by heart,
and I make up adventures
and dreams and words
for some of the pages I've never heard.

But I like it best
when Mother sits
and reads to me
my favorites;
when Rapunzel pines
and the prince comes forth,
or the Snow Queen sighs
in the bitter North;
when Rose Red snuggles
against the bear,
and I lean against Mother
and feel her hair.

We look at stars
in Hungary-
back of the North Wind-
over the sea-
the Nutcracker laughs;
the Erl King calls;
a wish comes true;
the beanstalk falls;
the Western wind
blows sweet and low,
and Mother gives words
to the worlds I know.

-Mary Cohn Livingston

To me, this says read to your kids. Read MORE. If that is all you ever do, you are a HUGE success

Oh, lovely poem! It rings familiarity, like in Childcraft books or My Book House series? Where did you find it?

Jen- I came across the poem in Tomie de Paola's Book of Poems, which I found at my library.

I had never seen this poem, or his poetry book, before- what a find. The illustrations are wonderful, especially the pictures that go with this poem.

Love it. Inspires me to read more to my little ones- which they all still are!

Love it!!!      Sometimes it IS all I ever do!!      Whenever we have a down day (people are sick, tired, in need of cuddles), this is always my first instinct, and it always does the trick. Thank goodness such an amazing thing can be done while reclining!!
