I would like to learn more about lap books, but am not sure where to begin. I know that there are many books out there to use as a reference, but right now we cannot swing purchasing them and our library doesn't carry anything I've searched for (Dinah Zike, Tammy Duby, etc.). Can anyone recommend any other resources for learning about ow to make/use lap books? For my first projects, I would like to make a lap book of math facts for my 5th grade dd, and also begin a lap book of letters/beginning sounds for my pre-schooler, so anything relating to those topics would be a great help!
Thanks in advance!

Candle in the Window has some good examples of folds and lapbooks.
Homeschool Share has lots of examples of lapbooks and has a great index and resource page too. (If you look at the master lapbook index you'll find lapbooks about addition, multiplication, etc. Check the Alphabet lap-n-note for ideas for pre-schooler.)
This Plano FIAR co-op has lots of great Five in a Row lapbook examples.
If you join the lapbooking yahoo group, you can find lots of examples there. They also have several lapbooking photo groups you can join with more pics of lapbooks (scroll down on their homepage to see).
We also have some examples of lapbooks on this forum, but they are mostly related to picture books.

Janette,
Thank you for reminding me about Homeschool Share! I can't believe I forgot about that!
I would like to invest in a good resource about lapbooking at some point, and I am trying to decide about The Big Books of Books by Dinah Zike. Have you seen this book and if so, what do you think if it?

Tea,
I have one of her books, the Math one I think, I used is for a while but I like the specifics of lapbooking. I love to use Homeschool share because I can pick and choose what I like.
Now that you mention it the math facts for my 5th grader would be awesome! I know that you can find a ton of animal ones on homeschool share too.
Also check out these File folder games for your pre-schooler. I know they aren't lap books but they might work for you
Off to dinner but I'm thinking of more resources
Oh I almost forgot In the Hands of a child. Sign up for their email list and they go on sale sometimes too.
Oh and there is always Lapbooks for Catholics. Obviously not for math and phonics but really, really good lapbooks for catechism.

There are some great videos on lapbooking on Youtube that even help with the basics of how to assemble a lapbook. It really helps to see first hand how to do it.
We made a multiplication lapbook for our first lapbook, it was so fun, one of our favorites that was not a lapbook template, but we modified it was an ice cream cone template. The templates are here: Ice Cream Template, we used the black and white templates and reduced them way down in size to fit stacked on the page. (I have the reduced cones all saved in my documents. If anyone would like a copy PM me).
Thank you all for the resources mention, I know dd would like to do another lapbook.

Thank you for suggesting checking out YouTube! I do find that I need to see something in order to really comprehend how to do it!

Tea, I don't have the Big Book of Books, but a friend has it and I looked through it way back when and remember thinking it was very thorough. I bought Tammy Duby's The Ultimate Lap Book Handbook instead. Both books show lots of different folds. I can't remember if Zike's book shows examples of finished lapbooks. Duby's book does, which I like because it shows how to put it all together. However, you could easily use the folds in Dinah Zike's book along with pictures of finished lapbooks from different websites too.
Have you tried asking your library if they'll do an inter-library loan for you?
