So I ordered some stuff from CHC for this upcoming school year and it shipped 5 days ago. It got here already, and it was shipped media mail. I am thoroughly impressed. The quality is amazing too. I am just so pleased already and we have yet to use the products besides flip through them.

I ordered Little Stories for Little Folks, Number Practive and Letter Practice (along with a lot of coloring books). I got everything in two days and was shocked (since it was coming from Ca and I live in WV). I absolutely love their materials. I will definitely order from them again!

Not to detract from the impeccable service CHC offers, but even though they are based in CA, they ship from OH.

That makes it even more impressive Margot
We are only using some of their materials because I am adding in with other things. I got their lesson plans for the awesome resources they have included in there. This upcoming year (for pre-k/k) we are using from them:
Little Folks Letter and Number Practice
Little Book of Saints Books 1 and 2
Easy as 1, 2, 3: A Catholic Overview of Science for Primary Grades
Who Am I? K workbook
I am thinking of ordering their phonics program but will wait and see how she progresses on her own this year. We are starting in December with the K lesson plans and doing some of the pre-k plans in the interim so if she starts reading on her own before then great if not then I will purchase the phonics program later.

One of the things I've always loved about CHC's materials is how well they integrate with the Charlotte Mason approach...they're so gentle and faith-filled. We loved their spelling and handwriting books - perfect supplements for reading, narration and copywork. Just today I was reminded of all the benefits of copywork and penmanship (which is an important skill/art)...and thought back to dd's penmanship work...happy memories!

I have FIAR on the way and I am actually thinking about returning it after seeing the awesome CHC materials. This way I can get their phonics program and the other couple things I left out.

I have always been impressed with their shipping, too. Very fast.
One thing I love about their materials is that so many of the illustrations are black and white and meant to be colored. My dd LOVES to color, so the work and the coloring are all integrated for her, and she loves it.
My ds is not a huge coloring fan, but he loves the stories, especially in the Devotional Stories For Little Folks series. I started reading them out loud to him when he was about 4. Now we use them for his daily reading, and he loves them, especially the stories about Greg.
And I have to say I've picked up a few parenting hints from Mrs. Peterson.
We all know what Daviiditis is at my house

We are finishing up LSLF in the next month. I like how the stories are about children living out their faith. Their materials are so lovely and give you such a warm fuzzy feeling.

I had no idea they shipped from Ohio!! Totally explains how my orders are able to arrive overnight!
I have used their materials for 15 years and have never been disappointed.

I love their materials, too, and my 1st and 2nd graders enjoy using them. My 1st grader always illustrates her handwriting lessons! And my 2nd grader adored the Bigger Stories/Devotional Stories -- he's a voracious reader and raced through them and on to other things, but laughed himself silly while he read them.
I used the Little Stories phonics program with both younger children and liked it a lot, though each of them was ready to move on to something more "real" long before we finished all the levels. My 1st grader finished Levels 2 and 3, then we moved into the first of those Lepanto Press nature readers (Seaside and Wayside) and the American Cardinal Reader 1. Because the kids have gotten impatient with the phonics program, I've been glad that the handwriting and spelling programs reinforce those concepts -- makes me feel freer to follow their reading inclinations instead of saying, "No, no, we HAVE to read through 'i-before-e-except-after-c' . . . "
Anyway, yes, we're fans here. For the longest time I resisted buying their materials, because I thought "gentle" meant "too easy." But I've been delighted to find that I was wrong, and that "gentle" really means "thorough and even rigorous without being painful."

I thoroughly love CHC myself. Its pretty expensive to have it shipped to Australia, but it is wonderful what we have.
DD is nearing being a teen in 6 wks, So we purchased all things Girls late last year, when they had the free shipping deal. Her friends absolutely love the books. Most of her day to day homeschool girlfriends are Christian-not Catholic.
They always want to look at them together and ask DD to bring them along to girls group days. So here I was thinking, she may look at these books a couple of times, but they are pawed over. Can you imagine these girls reading and absorbing things like CCC and sections on Our Lady and the Saints. Can't buy this exposure. And there Mum's as well.
We have other material as well, but these are the hit.
Can you tell I am excited about this

Okay, so speaking of CHC ... and just for the sake of "research" again , I would love to have your opinions on CHC 5th and 7th grades.
I used CHC with my dd in 1st, when we were new to homeschooling. Then we enrolled with an accredited company and that's all we've ever done. So now I'm looking back at CHC and wondering if we should make a switch, at least in some things.
This is my usual "the grass is greener over there" state that occurs around March every year, and then I eventually talk myself out of making a switch. But, I'm really feeling like we need to make some changes for next year. So, just curious what CHC experienced moms would have to say.
I will note that after looking at the catalog, CHC has really changed over that last 6 years. Perhaps that is why I'm drawn to them again.

We've been using only CHC exclusively since we started HS'ing 2 years ago. We love it! The approach starts out so gentle and progresses as they advance, I so love that.

FIAR is a whole other ballgame and can easily be used w/ CHC. Don't send it back until you've done at least 3 of their book selections.
I'm keeping all of mine to use w/ the grandchildren.

Re CHC and the middle-school years: I ordered this past year's version of the middle school plans for my 7th-grade son, but have done them all out of sequence. He's been doing what I think is really the 8th-grade world-history program of weekly research projects, which has been wonderful: I copied the weekly plans and put them in his assignment binder, and every week he's cranked out a short research paper, which is what I wanted him to do. He has also really, really liked the "Virtue Tree" religion course (I had him read the Growing in the Virtues of Jesus book which is recommended for the parent).
In short, I'm glad I have those plans, because they've given me great ideas for this level, though I have not at all used them as written. But overall, I think the program is quite good and not too "gentle" for this age. My own orientation is much more literature-based, but I find that the CHC plans provide a good framework for us, and where I want workbooks (Language of God, etc), theirs are good and thorough. My son has also really liked the Michael Spear All Creatures Great and Small life-science text -- my oldest daughter loathed it, but for some reason that rather unexciting book has inspired a great love for science in this particular son. Go figure.
