Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Okay, so looking over some of the old posts on CLAA, I see that some of y'all have your kids involved in the Petty School program. Can you tell me about it?

Mr. Michael told me that he doesn't recommend starting with the program when you are just beginning your homeschooling journey. Would you agree with this assertion? And why?

Hi Jillian.
I'm glad you've been able to read through some of the older posts here that pertain to CLAA. There is a good bit of information on these older threads that you're welcome to search through and read and may be helpful for you.

I wanted to encourage you to ask your "nuts and bolts" questions about this prepackaged curriculum directly on the CLAA forums or from the curriculum directly. As a ministry, our focus is on designing and adapting curriculum which emphasizes living books, and I know CLAA offers support and feedback on their site that pertains directly to their unique curriculum. I think that might give you the most help if you're looking into CLAA for your family.

Ah okay thanks Jen. I posted this before I got to that suggestion at the end of one of the other threads on CLAA.

My 6 year old daughter is enrolled in Petty School.   We've been enrolled for about one semester, and it's going well.   The lessons start off easy and grow in intensity and rigor. Last year, we did Catholic Heritage Curriculum.   This year, we are doing CLAA, while supplementing some leftover CHC materials and MODG supplemental materials (various saint books, First Communion Baltimore Catechism, Illuminated Ink art projects, and music). The only part that has not been very successful is Catechism I-- I think once she is a fluent reader and a bit older and able to work a bit more independently, this will go smoothly. But right now, as a mostly non-reading petty schooler, Catechism I is too labor intensive-parent intensive for me.

I am glad that I did one year of "traditional" kindergarten with something gentle like CHC, just to have the experience.   Petty School is very different than traditional homeschool curriculums.   Perhaps he wants to be sure you can feel comfortable with CLAA, and having some experience with other curriculums might give you a better idea if the CLAA and its lifestyle is the right fit for you.

All the best in your decision!
