This is out there, but does anyone know of a place that rents/lends homeschool dvds?
For instance, I would love to see the All Day Simply Charlotte Mason seminar on dvd. It is four discs. I want to see them, but I don't know that I need to own them. I checked at netflicks with no luck. My next plan is to ask around our homeschool group to see if anyone has it.
Other ideas?

I know what you mean. I feel that way about those and some of the Teaching Company lectures. I'd love to see them, my library doesn't carry them, and I don't wanna buy.
What's a woman on a budget to do?

Inter library loan?
I am in Chicago suburbs--everything is available somewhere in the system!

Yes, ILL. I'm always AMAZED at what they will find for me. The only thing in the last couple years that I can't get them to buy, and apparently they can't find them to be loaned out are those Animated Shakespeare DVDs. And, Theresa said they're not that great anyway. So, I've stopped bothering them about it!
ILL is not for new items (less than 1 year old), so if something is new, I have to wait for it.
I get things from all over the country. I got a Catholic book a couple weeks ago from Kentucky...which I thought was funny!
Now, I realize that some of these items are "privately-produced" (not sure if that's the term), and maybe they don't have an ISBN number. So, maybe that makes a difference. But, even if I don't have an ISBN number, I send the LINK to the SCM site to let them know where I found out about it.
Also, have you tried requesting some of these items for purchase from the library? I fill out purchase requests all the time on-line. It's always worth a try.

ILL is a good idea. My only hitch with that is that my library charges $2 per request... whether or not they can obtain the item for you!
I've donated 2 bucks on several occasions now with no ILL to show for it, which has gotten frustrating. For those of you with good systems.... I have library envy!

Well now, my library charges $4 whether or not they find it! I'll join the library envy club with you.

Our new ILL system charges $10 if the item comes from specific Libraries. I have major library envy!

My library uses Worldcat to locate items. I tried this morning and had no luck.
Well, now we all know what the next hot at-home business will be:
homeschool dvd rentals!

Melinda
The ladies of our hs group really wanted to see some of the CM DVDs. A lady from our neighbouring hs group owned a set and we borrowed and hosted a ladies afternoon, complete with high tea(talk about feeling pampered). We watched the DVDs and discussed afterwards.
If you can't find a set to borrow, why don't you buy a set, host an afternoon tea and ask for a gold coin donation to offset some of the cost.
