Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How many of you school 5 days a week every week?
I have an upcoming 4th grader and upcoming 1st grader, and was wondering how many of y'all do a full time 5 days/week schooling?
I'm in my third trimester, and we're coming up on the end of our books, and there always seems to be errands/housework that needs to be done. So we end up "schooling" about 3 or 4 days a week!!

Dh and I are TOTALLY schooled, neither of us were raised with ANY homeschooling background, in fact dh was raised by a teacher, who still doesn't approve of our decision.

Thanks mama's for the help!
God Bless

We school 5 days a week, but Wednesdays are a light day with just read-alouds and religion. We then use that day for field trips, shopping, errands, cleaning, etc.

we do 4 days a week but mostly because I found it almost impossible to keep us all on track on Fridays because the schools here only go 4 days a week and all the kids in the neighborhood are out and about on Fridays.

I use Fridays for a catch up on housework day so that the kids know they're free as soon as we finish jobs.

May you be blessed during your 3rd trimester, birth, and babymoon!

One of my favorite aspects of home educating is finding a routine that works well for my family given any set of circumstances. We have never done a five day school week. I figure, since we are more efficient with our formal studies (reading, writing, math,) we can get the basics done quickly, making room for other things that are important to us. Here's what we're doing now...

Monday through Wednesday = emphasis on formal studies with mom

Thursday = mom/planning & other mom work + independent student work on their studies

Friday = all contribute to home care, errands + independent student work with dad review of week

This way, my younger students tend to finish their work earlier in the week, freeing them to play, create, and rest while my high schoolers will need to put in longer hours, mainly on their own.

Don't forget, that you can also figure in sick days, vacation days, and mental health days as needed .

Love,

We home educate five days a week, and more or less year round. At the moment, Wednesdays are the day when, every other week, we go to french and music groups, and do science in the afternoon; apart from that, the aim is to get "formal" learning done before lunch.

We also educate 5 days/wk. On Fridays the children mostly take tests and we have art and music. So I try to keep Fridays to be shorter, more relaxed. With the 1st grader, however, you might just do 4 days.

We school Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri. Wednesday is for coop, swim lessons, and sign language class.

I like being able to divide my week. For example, on Mon and Tues we do world history, Thurs and Fri - Amercian. Mon and Tues is for "book science", Thurs and Fri is nature studies, and so on

We school M-F, mornings only, unless we have some timewasters! :-) I try to leave from just after lunch until when my other public-schooled kiddos get home, for doctor appts, etc.

I had every intention of continuing through the summer, but with two kiddos "out" for summer break, plus the heat in AZ, it's hard to convince everyone else that lessons are important! Maybe in a week or two we'll get back on track...of course, then we have family vacation planned...ahhhhhhhhh, learning to be flexible is HARD.

At that age I do 3 or 4 days max. And now even for my high school aged kid he usually only does any formal schoolish stuff 3-4 days a week, leaving time for volunteerism and such on other days.

We do five days a week for the first three weeks when they're excited and to give us a good strart. Then we go to four days.

We do 4 days a week of all subjects, and then usually just Math on Fridays. We try to keep this schedule even if it means doing a little extra the other days, because we really like having part of Friday off!
