Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone know of some good cd's to listen to while driving around in the car...I have some Glory Stories about the saints we listen to..but I'm wanting some other ones..maybe history, science,or math. I'm thinking about getting the Story of the World cd's, just curious if there is anything else out there that would be good for ages 5-11yrs...
Thank you!

we really love Your Story Hour, its protestant, but worth it. Also anything from Fatima Family Apostolate. They have catechism for children, stories of the saints. Sorry, no other links besides faith ones

Our hands down favorite car schooling CD's are the many selections that Jim Weiss makes available!!!

Greathall Productions

If it helps to read reviews, you can find many of them at Amazon.

Some people here are fortunate enough to find them at their local library and borrow them.

I did use the Story of the World Vol I audiobook (also narrated by Mr. Jim Weiss) for our carschooling last year and the kids really enjoyed it.

Librivox and Audible both offer free audiobooks for downloading. I've never used either of these services, but I keep meaning to look into them more. If you have iTunes, there are also free audiobooks offered there. I did download a free version of Anne of Green Gables and we listened to it in the car one year.

Hmmm. We've enjoyed Your Story Hour CDs, all the Story of the World CDs (although you have to watch v. 2 about Luther), lots of books on CD, including Heidi, Swiss Family Robinson, and the Bronze Bow (some of which we've gotten from Blackstone Audio, others from the library, and some I've purchased on CD from Amazon.) We've also downloaded books from Audible.com.

Focus on the Family: Radio Theatreis a *great* favorite here. The kids particularly liked the Narnia CDs and Anne of Green Gables. The Secret Garden is also good. These are dramatized books; they're not readings.

In the past my dh has also downloaded old science fiction podcasts from the 50's which are great fun if you like the sort of movies with titles like, "It Came from Outer Space!" I think we've listened to old radio programs like the Shadow and Zorro, too. Pretty sure he just got those from the iTunes store. (I'm not sure those count as carschooling, but they're fun. )

We love the audio versions of the Prydain Chronicles (5 books. Fantasy.), Chronicles of Narnia (fantasy with religious truths), Beatrix Potter (science) and The Phantom Tollbooth (math. That one may have been a cassette..)

Jim Weiss has narrated a lot of audio books, including history and nature. (Some of the history books are GA Henty. Some find Henty dry but others love them. Some are anti-Catholic see this thread.)

Sign of the Beaver

We've listened to lots of Horatio Hornblower (naval battles in Napoleonic War), but after the first 4 or so books the content gets inappropriate for younger kids. The first few are fine.

There are lots of other books on CD that we've listened to. I just can't think right now! Until our CD player went out, we always had a book going in the car. I go to the library and check out whatever they have that doesn't look too twaddly. I research them if I'm not sure.
