Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi,

i know this was curriculum was discussed before, but i couldn't find it.

and - i was hoping maybe people might have more recent experience.

my dh - who usually doesn't have much to say about what curriculum i pick ( tho he does listen to me babble about the pros and cons of whatever i am looking at...)well, he actually voiced that he thinks he would maybe like me to give MBtP a try for our dc.

so - looking for any recent reviews/experience?

Laura, I have used parts of MBTP with my 9 year old since she was 7 and I am pleased with it. We have only used some of the Concepts/Units to supplement. She was bounding ahead by a few years and needed something more conceptually challenging and integrated than I was able to whip up at the time. Dd loves it and if we miss it on any given day she is upset. Truthfully, I'm not sure why it appeals to her other than that the material requires the child to manipulate the information that they have learned in a unique way. If you look at each activity separately it is not something you would notice, but as a unit it overlaps in such a way that the gifted child is stimulated and the average child's interest is sparked. In the 7-9 I liked just about everything except the American Heroes. I didn't like the main Hero book or the the majority of the related activities, in part because it focused on a secular understanding of heroes. This year we are using parts of the 8-10. The 9 year old is using it mostly as written and I also use it to direct our 12 year old's science studies. If you have any specific questions I'm happy to answer them? I would suggest purchasing just one "concept" to try before investing in the entire year.

thank you!

this is interesting.
you are not the only mom i have heard say this, btw, that their children seem to really like it. i keep hearing this, even when sometimes the mom seems a little surprised at their child's enthusiasm for it. huh.

I'm curious because I am thinking seriously about using MBTP 8-10 for my son and 6-8 for my daughter: what do you use from MBTP and what do you add to it? WHat pros and cons do you see with it? How labor intensive is it for you? Because it is secular, have you seen any issues with it trying to be too "politically correct" or anti-religion? What religion course do you add to it? How about chronological history versus MBTP's focus on social studies? Thanks so much!

Hi Pilotswife, I noticed that Cathy Duffy reviews this program. Her reviews have always been so detailed and helpful to me! Since most of us here at 4Real design our own curriculum, you might want to check out Cathy's review of this prepackaged curriculum, or ask the curriculum provider your questions. I did notice on Cathy Duffy's page that this program claims some Waldorf, which is a philosophy of education that is not within our moderating abilities. Sure hope this helps you find some answers.
