Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've homeschooled my two dc from the beginning. After much thought and prayer, dh and I have decided to send dd to ps next year. She has wanted this for a couple of years and is very excited. I am not looking for anything in the way of this decision, but for what to do until then.

We began the school year knowing that this would be our last year for her at home. Due to my own fears/insecurities about where she'd be academically, we've used a more structured curriculum this year. We started off using MODG. We're all bored! We've since ditched Ancient Egypt (did it all fall) and are now reading Forester's World of Abraham Lincoln. I guess my question is: if you knew your dd or ds was attending ps in the fall and that they were on level, what would you do with the remaining months at home? I don't want to spend these next few months slogging through workbooks or things we find dull. Math is a non-negotiable. We're doing Saxon (7/6 for her and 5/4 for ds age 9). I just am feeling burnt out and wanting more joy out of this journey. Would you unschool the next few months or just follow rabbit trails?

I have been really trying to find the joy in each moment of our days knowing I'll miss her so much next year. My ds will still be homeschooled next year. I know it will be an adjustment for him as well not to have dd here. Thanks for any input! Prayers would be appreciated, too!

This is just what *I* think I would do in your situation - I would try to get her a little bit ahead of her peers in school in math/grammar/spelling (if possible) in case transitioning is harder mentally/emotionally than she thought - other than that, I would go NUTS on the field trips! I would want to spend time doing FUN educational things with her, things *I* would want to be a part of, so that the memories of homeschooling and that time were sweet.

If she's on target for her grade level, then I would prob. tend to be waaay more unschooly. Lots of books, may be some writing assignments and math would be all. And then, LOTS of field trips too!!

I would do lots of educational games, some arts/crafts and cooking projects that went along with our history lessons, some fun hands-on activities and of course some really good read-alouds. That should make your last homeschooling moments enjoyable and memorable.

Blessings, Jody
