Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a 5yo son who has recently shown a HUGE interest in puzzles. I'm tired of spending $5-$10 on puzzles that break and tear easily. Any suggestions on some better quality type of puzzles?

We have always loved the Ravensburger puzzles, although they are a little more expensive than the regular dime-store variety. They seem to be more sturdy and on a little thicker cardboard base. Plus, some of the puzzles are so colorful! I linked to the 1-100 pieces page, but they have puzzles of every size and piece count.

I second Ravensburger puzzles. They do seem to last a lot longer that regular puzzles.
We also love Lauri Puzzles. If your scroll down in this link you will see the "big" puzzles they offer. These are great! My 7 and 9 year olds still enjoy doing these, and they last forever and the company offers replacements parts--a big plus for us!

We really like the Ravensburger puzzles, also. They have some lovely designs, as well as being sturdy.

We have a lot of the Melissa and Doug wooden puzzles. They are pretty much indestructible, and come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, types, and varying levels of difficulty.

I'm not Theresa, of course, but we have several of the Melissa and Doug puzzles including 4 or 5 floor puzzles and they are great. My 4 year old loves puzzles and he does really well with the 50ish piece floor puzzles.

Yep! We have dozens of puzzles. The floor puzzles are very popular, as well as the wooden framed puzzles.

I too have children who love puzzles. We too love the Melissa and Doug floor puzzles.

One option for changing up the puzzle supply is to try and find a friend close by to do a puzzle exchange with. Last winter, a friend and I exchanged puzzles every Wednesday. I dropped off 3 puzzles at her house and picked up three puzzles of hers for us to use. It worked out really, really well.

I have had success finding discounted Melissa and Doug puzzles at Marshall's and Home Goods (owned by TJ Maxx).

Another alternative is to buy them cheap at yard sales and thrift shops. i ususally get puzzles for under a dollar. I've yet to get one with missing pieces. Maybe I'm lucky.
