Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My husband has retired from the Air Force and wants to retire in Alabama. Right now we are staying with his parents just north of Birmingham, but he would like to find a job in the Huntsville area.

Is there anyone in either area who is willing to talk us through getting started in AL? Our boys are 10, 12, 14, and 16. My husband wants to put them in public school this year because he thinks that he will be too busy job hunting for the next month or two while I am taking a temporary job in SC.

He doesn't think that he can teach them and is fairly certain that his parents won't help. Of course, he hasn't spoken to them about it at all.

So I sort of need someone to encourage my DH that he can teach and job hunt in AL at the same time, at least for six weeks. Or I need to bring them all to SC with me for the beginning of the school year. Or I can convince him to wait until October to start school. Or something else I haven't considered yet.

It's brainstorming time.

Hi Loren,

We are in middle, southern TN and attend Mass in Huntsville. I don't have much advice, but if you really don't want your kids in public school, my best advice is to pray specifically to the Holy Spirit. I was listening to Fr. Corapi last night and he said, "Every problem can be solved by the Holy Spirit." I had never quite thought of it that way. I'll be praying for your discernment.

God bless,

Loren,
I'm in the Huntsville area and you can pm me for some details about homeschooling here.

I can't help you with the decision on whether or not to homeschool during this transition time. I'm sure it *CAN* be done, whether or not you and your husband discern it to be the right thing for your family is a different story entirely. This is a decision for the two of you! I think Kristen's advice to ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and grant you wisdom in this decision is wise!

If you and your dh decided to homeschool the boys during this transition time, I would sure consider this time and probably some time afterward as survival schooling and approach it in that way.

Sending prayers for your husband's job search around here! Our local economy is still fairly strong, thanks be to God, so I pray that translates into a smooth and quick job opportunity!

Thank you both. Your prayers are very much appreciated.

Yesterday, we went to Huntsville to do some paperwork, and had a lovely lunch with one of the ladies from this board. Thank you so much for opening your home to us. You have a lovely family and we all had a good time. We still need to call the cover school, but the visit was very informative.

Thank you all!
