The boys and I have taken over the sunroom for school. We were tired of not having a "place."
Three of the walls are all window from the ceiling down, so 30" of wall at bottom. The fourth wall has two openings on it to other rooms so the space that was left in between we covered with a magnetic whiteboard. We love that. We are using those folding plastic tables you can buy at Sams and Costco for desks.
The only problem is where to put our "stuff". Does anyone have any suggestions for under the windows? I had an expedit shelf from Ikea that is only 30" high so I brought it in. It is ok but doesn't have a back so things fall out and we tried baskets but I am thinking something that would close with doors would be great. Yep, we're messy but since there is no place to put things away we don't have much choice. I haven't found anything like that which is 30" high or less though. I have to find a way to hide all of the clutter because dh is not amused with our mess.

Have you thought of kitchen cabinets? I bought ours at a local builders resale store that supports Habitat for Humanity. I used upper cabinets as they aren't as deep.

I have 2 cabinets that are about 29" high and 23" deep and 23" wide with doors and on wheels that I got a while ago at Staples. They were on sale about $25 a piece and had to be assembled. They may work for your space.
The other thing that may work would be the plastic drawer sets that are also on wheels. I think they are about the height that you would want. Just 2 things that come to mind.

LeeAnn - I have not looked at kitchen cabinets yet. Upper cabinets sound like a great idea. Did you put something on top of them or were they finished?
Kathy - I think I might have to check out Staples this weekend too. I forgot to mention I do have some of the plastic drawer units we are using for our workboxes.
Thank you both for your suggestions. I really appreciate hearing what works for other hsers.

We put a shelves across the top. We screwed the shelves into the tops of the cabinets to stablize them as we didn't want to screw into the walls. We have had his set up for 2 years now, and it has worked well.
We have stuff on the shelf. We have a terrarium, an amphibian tank, our globe, plants, bins with supplies, things I want them to see and touch.

That sounds like a really good solution for our storage problem. I will be looking into this tomorrow as I am very anxious to get that room into a more ordered state.

Check to see if you have any builder's resale by you. My cabinets are 100% oak (no particle board or plywood) and I paid $15 each for them! Ours is called "Restore America" and is affiliated with Habit for Humanity. It is my first stop for all household needs.

we use our sunroom for school too! i have an old dining room set that i use for our things and i put it along the wall that has no windows (the wall that connects to the house.) i have a small cabinet, a china cabinet, and a buffet along that wall. the rest of my room contains 2 small sorters (the kind of rack with bins) a dining room table and a couch. we love doing school in this room! it does make wall space pretty tricky.

We bought some bookshelves from Ikea but turned them SIDEWAYS so they are like a bench with cubbies. You'll have to attach the adjustable shelves with screws.
We also have a dresser that we took the legs off of and it's about 28" high now that it sits directly on the floor. It has 9 drawers and we use it as a bench type seating in the LR (and storage!)
I use Sterilite plastic drawers on bookshelves for a LOT of our school stuff - unifix cubes, geometery shapes, Cuisenaire rods, stencils, etc. I even use one as my "inbox" for the kids to turn in their work! (Open basket for papers doesn't work so well with art inclined preschoolers always scrounging for scrap paper!)

You can also use over the refrigerator wall cabinets on the floor with a piece of countertop to make a window seat nook. We have this in our kitchen to span the cabinets/counters on either side of a window.
