Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We were given a whole bunch of Standard Deviants DVD tapes - Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trig, and Precalculus in math & Chemistry, Biology and Physics in science. I know absolutely nothing about these and before I sit down and preview this, I want to know if it is likely to be helpful or not. Does anyone have any experience at all with these? Any comments, heads up or otherwise, good, bad or indifferent. These just dropped in my lap at no cost to us, so I'll use them in some way if they are good and really helpful.

Hi, Suzanne--

A few years ago, my son went through a phase of checking these out of the library and watching them for fun. ("Shh, Mom, this pre-algebra video is getting to the good part!" Um, Mom didn't know pre-algebra had a "good part"...)

Anyway, as far as I can recall, they had some corny humor, but I don't remember anything terribly inappropriate. I could be wrong, though, so do please preview! However, my son did learn from them. They are intended for review/cram session, but he used them more as a preview. They sparked his interest in some of the topics and sent him back to the library to read more (he was only about 9 at the time, but very into math & science). I know he never saw the biology one, though. I avoided that one!

If you don't find them useful, I know someone who'd be interested in buying them.

HTH!

I have a friend who used some of these with her older kids and recommended them. I can't tell you much more.
