Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi All,

This is my first "real" post--you can read my long winded intro on the Mother Nurture forum Here is the short version--
I'm Anne, mom to CJ and Maura. I am a HS newbie, we will start in September--if the kids let me wait that long.
CJ will be in 3rd grade and Maura will be in K (maybe some 1st, but we will start with K).

DH and I are going to the IHM conference this weekend . It is our first and we are way excited.
Any tips? Tricks of the trade, things to look for?

I can tell you we are still looking for a curriculum, DH is more comfortable with a full enrollment option. I am more a "free spirit". So we really want to take a look at: Kolbe, Seton, MODG, OLOV... So any opinions on that subject would be great too.

Many Blessings,

Anne

Anne,

I hope I can meet you. I'll be there on Friday afternoon, around lunchtime.

I'm no seasoned hser, but if you're looking for a little more freedom within a full enrollment option, everyone here has recommended Kolbe and MODG. They both give more stretching room than the others you mentioned.

Anne,

I'll be at the IHM conference too. I hope I can meet you. Stop by my table jody's Hands-On Learning.

I don't carry full curriculums, just hands-on supplements. But I agree with Jennifer, MODG and Kolbe are good choices .

Jody

I'm going with Seton for my "5th grader" just to start getting him ready for "real school" as he really wants to go to dh's high school ... for the other two I'll wait and continue our eclectic, unschooly, CM-ish way ...

One thing you'll love at IHM is the vendor hall cuz you can really look at things and talk to the folks and see what looks like it will work (but you'll never know until you actually try it ... that's why used curriculum is always available )

Oh, I did want to say there are some vendors that sell similar items, like picture books, or Catholic books. Before buying from one place shop around for the best price. There can be differences by a few dollars depending on the table.

... and check what "conference discounts" there might be ... Seton always offer 20% off and others offer free shipping, etc ....

I won't be at the conference, butmy book will be

Margot will have them at the Hillside Education table (thanks Margot)! I hope everyone has fun perusing all the great stuff and hearing the great speakers!

I too would follow your inner "relaxed" style even if you go with an enrolled curriculum.

Welcome to home schooling

Many blessings,

Oh yes - I am so excited for people to see Meredith's book. I haven't had time to post about it because things have been really hectic here - more hectic than usual if that is possible. But . . . you will love it!

I will also have these other self-published titles: (Cay's) Picture Perfect Childhood, Olivia and the Little Way, Destination Bethlehem.

Oh and a few other surprises!!!

Well, thank you Margot, you are a dear to have it there for me, and I am so wishing I was coming to the East coast this summer, but alas, I'm stuck on the West coast this year!!

Have a great time at the conference and I can't wait to hear all about it from everyone

Many blessings,

Can I make a confession here? I so want to go to the IHM conference; I'm trying not to "whine like a little girl" about the fact that it is just not going to be feasible. I actually feel silly about how badly I want to go; I don't usually get bothered about what I can or cannot do.

It sounds like an amazing couple of days, so I'll pray for all of you going that you have safe travels and blessed time at the conference (hmm, maybe a Franciscan Crown for the intention of all of you having a joyful time would be appropriate). And I'd love to hear all about it when you all get back.
